I originally bought this game in 2016 for my chonky 18 inch laptop with a desktop grade Intel core i7-6700k GTX 980, it was fun then, its fun now.
Currently rocking a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RX 9070 XT, running the game at the maximum graphics preset in 4k, super sampled up to 8k, the game is beautiful and still gets over 60 FPS, about 67 on average.
The game has fun mechanics and puzzle solving elements, and to beat its not too long either, it knows not to overstay its welcome, which stops it from getting boring or frustrating.
While I dont think the game is worth $20 today, I would say its a good game to pick up for a day or three if it goes on sale and you want something thats cozy, but not going for that cozy vibe.

In my experience so far, Monster Hunter: Wilds has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience for someone who has never previously played any games in the series. While many in this review section have complained about poor performance and optimization as well as poor graphics, after installing the free High Res texture pack, my experience improved greatly, and it did not hit my performance very much.
One thing that can be said is that when jumping from 1440p to 4K, the game looks completely different, almost as if you are in one of the cutscenes for the entire game. I think this may be caused by a bug where the textures do not actually change until 4k is enabled.
For this reason, I played on a TV with controller - which was a better experience when I tried playing on keyboard and mouse.

For the best experience in this game, I recommend playing with Raytracing set to high. More importantly, I recommend playing with HDR enabled if your system can handle it, as it is far more demanding in this game than 4k, high res textures, or raytracing is.
With that being said, HDR completely changes the experience of the world of Wilds

If one truly wants to see what a difference these settings can make, I recommend going to the Scarlet Forest during the time of Plenty

For those who cared, I have been playing with an ASUS Prime RX 9070 XT and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I have been easily able to lock the FPS to 60 and use FSR4 to enjoy a smooth 120 experience without any noticeable frame drops. Natively I can average around 80 fps. I have experienced a total of 2 crashes so far, but these were both due to the game and not from a gpu driver crash.

It is likely that the majority of complaints regarding performance in this game have so because
1. as a console port, it likes to have more CPU resources, the 3D V-cache dramatically boosts FPS in even my brothers' 7600X3D
2. Nvidia's drivers - my RTX 3060 laptop is still using December 2024 drivers

poor progression, enemies overpowered for the sake of overpowered, not challenging, just unfun.
buggy teleporting enemies, bosses in early game areas, nonboss enemies that 1-3 shot player w/ stagger, player can not stagger enemy back, locking into instadeath, mechanics have not evolved since 2011, would not recomend

This game is terrible, it just makes 0 sense
i have thousands of hours in other paradox grand strategy games, and this game just makes NO sense i cant stress it enough or put it into words how much sense is not being made in this game

Edit:
After further playing the game, its not as bad as i originally described, it still requires a lot of work though; unfortunately, as a paradox game, that means it is going to come from DLC, when fixing a game should be free.
