I'll just get to the point: Why the Battle Royale style circle of flames, FromSoft?

The randomized loot and randomised bosses is ♥♥♥♥ enough, there's no prepping for a fight so you just grab the biggest number loot - which to me, is boring AF. But it's on a time limit too? A time limit that is disgustingly short at that as well. Either remove the circle of fire COMPLETELY, non of this 'just make it take a little longer' ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because that doesn't fix any of this randomised ♥♥♥♥, or allow us to pick what weapons we want and allow us to further upgrade them with more boss kills. For lots of people, Dark Souls 2 is the worst game on FromSoftware's games list but I think we have a new low for the company with this one.

Had this been a game that was build on its own IP, I could probably look past this weak ♥♥♥♥ and still have an 'okay' time with it. But, this trash is built on the pillars that is the best game that has been released in the last decade, and arguably ever for some. Don't let this ♥♥♥♥ exist alongside a game such as ELDEN RING. I had to be convinced not to refund this because apparently there's a patch coming that 'fixes' the flame circle, well it better ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ do because this ♥♥♥♥ is beyond appalling.

I've played pretty close to every souls-like game out there and NIGHTREIGN is difficult for the dumbest of reasons; a blue flame circle.

Overall a great game, I like the customisation details and overall story. Online play is very decent too, with disconnects or unplayable latencies only happening very rarely. Optimisation for the game seems pretty good aswell.

However, playing through the story modes and their 'boss tier' fights has me running into some of the saddest AI design ever: Button checking. And I get it, AIs are pretty hard to make challenging in fighting games so button checking for those is a thing. Though with SoulCalibur VI, we're looking at button checking at Mortal Kombat II level here, the one Mortal Kombat game in the series being known as the hardest of them all due to the AI's button checking (or input reading) of the player's controller. Literally performing actions based on what the buttons the player is inputting instead of what attack or combo the player character is performing. It's so blatently obvious too, as example: I held the D key (I play with a keyboard) during the start round countdown and let go of it a fraction of a second after the countdown was over (my character didn't even move yet) and the enemy AI made an attack that would've otherwise easily intercepted me. NOT holding down the D key during countdown had the enemy AI NOT attack, attacking and NOT attacking accordingly EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. There's multiple instances (combos that have different variants, usually starting with the same two attack hits and animations, but ending in other attacks and animation, M, M, M vs. M, M, L for example) where the AI knows perfectly what action to perform to counter the player's actions, wether it's parrying, (low)blocking, Soul Reversing, etc.

It's 2018 for ♥♥♥♥ sake, why's this still in games at this blatently obvious level.

This, due to the story modes being the largest part of the game, is why I DON'T recommend the game. Its input reading just creates much more frustration than entertainment. It sucks.
