This is everything you've asked for and more.

Sonic Generations is a classic, you've played it, I've played it, your mother's played it. It's a safe game that is just going through the motions of Sonic's history.

Shadow Generations? Now hoooooly ♥♥♥♥. If every Sonic game was like this, we'd have world peace. Twists and turns that will make you dizzy, an incredible feeling of speed in tight hallways that will have you forever wanting more, Chaos powers and Doom powers actually mattering in the long run according to how you use them, actual alternative paths that lead to other parts of a breathtaking map with amazing level design.

Thank you Sega. Finally, a game that every sonic fan can agree is GREAT.

This game is actually really fun, story is entertaining and gameplay is pretty balanced.

At first you would think the game is limiting (which is according to most reviews) because you start with three moves and a heavy, but with the usage of the character's powers, you can do a lot of combos and once you get into it, it's much more fun. You can also further unlock more attacks later in-game.

The characters are pretty interesting as well as engaging and so is the overall setting, the plot doesn't seem to be stupid yet. Being able to upgrade and "borrow" your allies' abilities is also a massive bonus.

It's not completely open world, but the places you can visit are large and there always collectables around so it encourages you to look around and see the sights. There are also people to talk to so you can find side missions easily,

All in all, this game doesn't deserve to get review bombed because you can't get out of a combo. It's not about mashing buttons, but using all your skills in order to progress. Some enemies turn invisible. Some move super fast. Some are hard as rock. How the game is played is almost solely dependant on the player.
