A wonderfully modernized dungeon crawler with a surprisingly great story, and a neat time travel mechanic. Held back a bit by the presence of micro-transactions, but I've felt no pressure to pay for anything, even approaching 70 hours in. I've earned more than enough party members, almost more than I could possibly use, and even the most basic characters feel viable, including the unnamed "generic" heroes. Some things you could opt to buy even feel like bad options (skipping level cap exams, or buying gold).

If I had one major complaint, its leveling extra characters; some of the best strategies involve repeating the same quests (with the time travel mechanic) or waiting for daily quests. It's a blemish on the otherwise great pacing, and at times feels like its best to stick to one well rounded team instead of using party comp to tackle specific dungeons.

I think the game's biggest drawback, and one I hesitate to even fault it for, is that the game's best plot hook comes at the end of the first dungeon, which may be upwards of 10+ hours to reach. If you dropped out before slaying Helmut once, give it another go, it gets very interesting very quickly!

This game gripped me in a way no other mystery dungeon game ever has.
The vibes are great, things actually managed to feel tense on several occasions, and prepping for the final run was so immensely fun.
Really hope we see a House of Necrosis 2!

I'm changing my review to a tenuous positive, because despite all my gripes with the systems I keep coming back and enjoy my daily handful of games. Draft runs are enjoyable, campaigns are great, and the updated factions so far have been fun to play even if a handful of cards have been too powerful. The battle pass is too expensive for what it offers however.

It's still far too difficult to obtain the cards you want at times. I've been chasing Magnus for months now and will probably never get him, and he's not even that spectacular or meta, I just like the character and faction. A deterministic way to obtain any card, even at twice or triple its gem value, is absolutely needed; if a legendary or epic card never shows up in the shop, its practically unobtainable outside of opening hundreds of packs. Nearly every digital card game has some form of card crafting or trade-up system; the limited rotating shop is antiquated and anti-fun.

If Warpforge launches in a similar state, its going to be disappointing.
