-= PROS =-
• Space
• Free Deform Terrain
• Local Co-op
• AUTOMATION!
• Free form Progression
• Infinite Replayability
• Cosmetics
• Events

-= CONS =-
• Overwhelming to Casuals
• Items CAN (but not always) clip out of the world
• End Game is Short

-= FINAL THOUGHTS =-
Astroneer is 100% worth the price tag and can EASILY eat hours of time trying to craft a "Recreational Ball" for your "helpful" friend ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
The main focus of the game is to create a functional space base and power up some devices scattered around the map which allow for inter-planetary teleportation as well as access to the satellite orbiting the Sun.
Of course you could completely ignore that totally achievable goal and instead aim for something like HARVESTING AN ENTIRE PLANET AND STORING IT IN CANISTERS...
Seriously, you can do that if you so desire - Good Luck if you do

-= RATING =-

-= Intro =-
I have owned Space Engineers (SE) for a few years and not had the motivation to play it as building was not my strong suit, however since picking it back up recently and putting a good 40 hours into it I have got to say my initial opinion has drastically shifted.

-= Gameplay =-
Depending on your play style or what you would like to set out to do the game play can bend to suit your needs;
Wanna build Capital ships to fight in massive 100v100 battles? Go nuts.
Wanna attempt to survive in a empty void only filled with Asteroids? Sure.
Wanna run an inter-planetary cruise liner shipping from Earth to the Moon to Mars using the power of a Jump Drive? Its possible.

As long as you have a drive and patience to build a space varying vessel, the possibilities are endless. I personally have been making a Hydrogen Mining Company based on the Moon, making bank by selling it the cheapest in the solar system (Oh god, I have become the space equivalent of an oil baron).

-= Modding =-
"Don't like something. take it into your own hands"- Someone most likely
The modding is a "Easy to Learn, Hard to Master" concept, the actually function of a block is written in XML and contains simple 3d models made in your favourite modeller.
A prime example of this is, I wanted small ship JumpDrives and the only mod I found for it was really OP and cheap-ish, so I downloaded the mod, used WinRAR to extract it and simply changed the max jump distance, costs, materials and energy consumption by simply changing 3 XML fields within the file, it was that easy.
(NOTE: I did not re-upload the mod in question, its a local "fix" I did to fit my game)
Modding is easy to get into but making a good and balanced mod is the hard part - especially with how there is no exact ratio to upgrade from Small Grid to Large Grid pricing and Power usage, you just gotta feel around to see if its right.

-= Rating =-
This is MY opinion and it may differ to yours.
Space Engineers is a strong game, since the first days picking it up to now it has changed drastically and has risen to be one of my favourite games that I can easily sink about 10+ hours in a single session into.
Back when I first picked up this game it was sort of a mess, but playing it now, its a excellent space survival sim with many great features that set it apart from other games in the category.
All in All a solid 8/10

Early Access Review
-= Gameplay =-
You are an Airport CEO (Funny that), you task is to build a Airport (Rather straight forward).

Its sounds a lot easier then it is, from making sure passengers can check baggage, get through security and get to the gate in time for boarding can offer more challenges then one would expect, especially the shop-a-holic passengers who get distracted by about 7 shops or the "people who are endlessly in the toilets". Don't forget loading baggage, cleaning the aircraft, catering, garbage collection, refuelling, defrosting and then ATC not giving you clearance on the 1 runway in the entire airport cause they have 7+ flights in formation...
And this is Early Access
Of course you already knew that and have prepped for it.

-= "Experimental" =-
This is MY experience with experimental.
The Experimental Branch is the most stable "Beta Branch" I have played on, with a total of 1 crash (that was even affecting the "Stable Branch", sure you get the unusual side effect but 99% of the time its fixed with a quick save/load and with load times being even shorter in the last few updates, there isn't really a downside, new features to play with and help "balance". Who doesn't like new features.

-= Rating =-
Again, this is MY opinion and it may differ to yours.
The game is solid, the devs are pushing regular content out (for a team of 3 that's bloody amazing) and its good content, taking in a lot of feedback on their Jira Bug Reporter, Forum Page and Discord, the community has a very large input on how the game is shaped.
My overall rating is a solid 9/10 but can easily be pushed to 10 once the game is feature complete. [See Addendum #1 Below]

-= Addendum #1: 11/11/20 =-
Some time has passed since I wrote this review and only just now have I made it public

The game is now teetering on the edge of full release so it is time to finish this review, the final version of this game is Awesome, the game has tons of elements to keep you engaged from Airplane Emergencies to Broken Chairs.

With that said, my concluding rating is 10/10 Grounded Airplanes

-= Addendum #2: 4/4/21 =-
• General Clean-up and tidy after looking back at how horrible this was.
• Experimental is likely not a thing anymore as 1.0 has released, feel free to ignore :)
