Portal bad; new grind is so long and boring and will be completely useless after Renegades probably; new gear tier system sucks; no more weapon crafting (cause everyone wanted the grind to be longer I’m sure); paid $40 for one 10 hour campaign and one raid

(EDIT as of February 2026) Game is actually pretty good now. Minor server issues and a few bugs but its genuinely fun now and the devs - while still slow - are moving in the right direction. I'm gonna leave what I had previously just for record.

Fun game but I can't recommend it for $30. Took months for crossplay to come out, and equally as long for any meaningful fixes. Even so, every patch and hotfix introduces more random bugs that range from annoying to genuinely game breaking, as evidenced by the most recent hotfix where simply tackling an opponent can trigger a goal to occur, even though the ball is nowhere near the net. Moreover, the netcode is still not great and you'll frequently ask yourself "What?" when you think you tackled an opponent and they act like nothing happened. The dev team is unfortunately incompetent and cannot handle a game of this scope.

Barring bugs and the unruly netcode, the game from a competitive standpoint the gameplay itself is also a joke - volleying is broken and the priority system (the determining factor in who wins a challenge) is frustrating to work with and the devs have done little to rectify it. To give them credit they nerfed volley shot speed by 10%, but the difference is negligible. The mechanic they should be focusing on that can actually combat volleying - the jump block (its called "dive" in the controls) - is frankly bad and leagues harder to use effectively by a defender than a striker just pressing the shoot button to volley. Overall, the game offers little counter to the ball being kept in the air through header juggling/soft lob headers and imo is not fun to deal with constantly.

I desperately want this game to succeed because it is such a unique experience, and hell if you just want to play for fun with friends and not take it seriously then go ahead and buy it but if you're the type to grind to improve then do yourself a favor and check back in like 6 months.

Don’t reward Capcom with your money until they fix the horrible performance.

Update: 7 months later and it’s still awful. Regardless of FPS at max settings (DLAA) the game still looks like blurry garbage. Maybe TU4 will actually do something (doubt)

Sekiro quickly became my favorite game of all time.

The combat/gameplay is the best part of the game for me and arguably the best FromSoftware has put out to date, with duels centered around learning the ins and outs of your opponents moveset and exploiting that to come out on top. Unlike the other souls games, there is no character speccing or the ability to brute force your way through the game (although there's still plenty of room for cheese). Instead, you're pushed into a dance with your enemy where you deflect incoming attacks, counterattack when you have an opening, and defend against perilous (unblockable) attacks using dodges or jumps. Splice all of that with combat arts and prosthetic tools and you've got the most satisfying melee combat I've ever encountered in a video game. The visual sparks and crisp auditory clank of metal on metal (or metal on flesh) when parrying an attack is just so good.

The boss fights are exceptional and besides the tracking of the Chained Ogre grab attacks, all of them are fair and consistent. *Luckily the loaded umbrella completely negates the ogre's grabs though so that's nice*. Because of the consistency of the combat, once you've beaten a boss only a few times, you've almost completely mastered them and can probably destroy them back-to-back, which makes you feel truly good at the game. Although I feel like overall the combat arts and prosthetics are underpowered, most of them are useful for at least one type of enemy or boss.

The movement is also much more fun than jogging everywhere, as everything is much faster paced and you've got a grappling hook, so that enables much more verticality in the map design.

The setting and art style is beautiful. You're not going to get the graphics on the same level as some triple A games, but the game is still amazing to look at. Sekiro is also more narrative driven, and I think the story is great, but it doesn't have as deep of lore as the other games. However, it still took me a few playthroughs to fully understand what was going on.

The boss replay and boss rush modes added to the GOTY addition are invaluable. I wish every future From game will have the replay feature (I hope Elden Ring at least gets one in the DLC as speculated to be a potential purpose of the colosseums).

If you ever get burnt out of playing the game there's also a couple overhaul mods that can be downloaded which drastically change the movesets and abilities of enemies and thereby make the gameplay fresh again. Long May the Shadows Reflect and Resurrection are two mods that come to mind, and I highly recommend checking them out it. Be warned though as they are more challenging than the base game.

Sekiro is a masterpiece.

There’s so much ♥♥♥♥ in this game. There’s always something to do. I tell myself I’m going to take a break and do something else but I can’t stop. I have about 350 hours in this game (Non-steam version) and I still haven’t gotten half the stuff I wanted from my first month of playing (granted I wanted the Tigris prime, mastery rank 13 btw xd).

This is a FREE game with more content than most triple A titles in the last 4 years. And the content is actually good (except archwings xd). The damage mechanics, the modding system, is. Just. So. Detailed. I still don’t know how some things work, but it’s fun trying to understand it.

I do however have one qualm with this game. Obtaining prime parts or mods that you desire is heavily RNG based. If you’re as lucky as my friend is *cough* Ryan *cough* you’ll get it no problem, but for the rest of us it’s a hassle. And it feels like DE sometimes doesn’t understand how to give a player an item they want without lengthening out the farming process. For example, relics. To get a prime warframe set, you’d need to use relics. And some of these warframe pieces are the rarest possible drop from that relic. On top of that, the relic ITSELF might be rare to come by. So you’re doing a mission praying to RNGesus that you’re gonna get the relic you want, and if you do you’d be praying a second time just to get the warframe piece you want. But that’s where the community can come in handy ;).

The warframe community is incredible. There’s always someone out there willing to help (except to kill the Jordan’s Golem xd). To somewhat bypass the farming I was talking about to get a prime warframe, you can do relic shares with fellow Tenno so to have a higher chance of getting the part you need.

You’re going to spend money on this game. It’s not a question. The only questions are when and how much money? I’ve spent $75 on this game. I regret nothing. It was probably the most confident purchase I’ve made.

Overall, I’d have to say the game’s pretty alright.

4.8/10
