It's great if you're just getting started. I'm finding that there are a lot of things that could be added - I haven't yet found a way to create custom props. I'd love to be able to import my own PNGs to the Editor so I could use them without having to overlay things. But it is what it is. I have the premium and the features are great. There's enough you can do with the free version though that it's a good jumping off point. Will I use it forever? Probably not if I seriously get into VTubing but for now it suits my needs.

Not what I expected.

I chose to go story mode on the short time I played this and it plays just like any standard RPGmaker game. Story Mode has easier battles but I feel like the 'story' was lacking. I understand they were trying to go with 'gritty' or 'dark' with moral decisions but in truth? I just didn't care.

None of the characters were particularly compelling and the few characters I actually liked turned out to be ones I had to decided to either kill or not. Unfortunately I didn't get to choose my main character which would have been a thousand times better. The character chosen as the main character was not even a little bit compelling. She was not someone I felt terribly inclined to save and after about 2 hours I was finding more enjoyment in not healing her in battle.

Maybe I missed something, maybe there are elements of the story I missed but there are other games that force moral decisions on you that are much more enjoyable and not at the expense of the likeability of the characters.

I could go further into how the language, excessive cursing, and behavior don't really match the time period in which the game seems to be set and how I don't really enjoy the character design as it also doesn't really seem to fit but these are personal preference.

It simply feels like they tried to do too many things halfway. There is potential for a better game but this one just seems like they needed to pull back and focus their efforts more on a smaller spectrum.

I purchased this game over 14 days ago but I will still chance requesting a refund as it is not at all what I expected.

TLDR:
Game is average, characters and story are not interesting, and I did not enjoy as far as I played.

LONG REVIEW AHEAD BEWARE (TL;DR at the end)

This game is a lot of fun. Really simple but I think that's what I find charming about it to be honest. I originally saw it on FrozenFoxy's youtube channel and found that it was an interesting concept. I go through bouts of playing it every now and then because deep down it's a time waster with a fair amount to do.

By no means am I an expert with this game. I play on the easiest mode because I hate losing progress (Protip, don't dock your ship and walk away for like 20 minutes you'll still have mutiny aboard your ship LOL.) I picked it up again recently (and played most of my gameplay recently too) and did notice that there HAVE BEEN updates. Not a lot but there are noticeable differences from the last time I played. TBH Don't remember when that was for a timeframe but they were updates for the better. Honestly, the game doesn't need a lot of changes. You go in knowing that this is a time waster with some strategy elements.

Basic Breakdown of Gameplay:

You create your campaign. The maps are generated based on the things you select. Create a character (cute customization etc) and Huzzah! You're a pirate in a pixel world.

You start at a basic town. Leave your ship as is for a while or mess around with it. DO NOTE THAT IF YOU DO DELETE YOUR WHOLE SHIP YOU NEED TO ENSURE IT HAS AT LEAST ONE WALL PIECE WHEN YOU REBUILD. If it hasn't got any wall pieces you can't sail. It seems silly but part of the game IS customizing your ship so I guess it's to be expected.

Each Town has to be explored before you know what's there. There are a variety of shops which don't show up at all towns. Hire crew at Taverns, Food for the ship at Food, Weapons for fighting at Weapons, Items sells skills (GET CLEANING AND SWIMMING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE) and stuff like healing items, Ship sells stuff for your ship. There are little mini quests too on bulletin boards.

Sail around, gain experience, fight stronger enemies. Defeat the Legendary Pirates listed at the beginning.

I still haven't gotten pets or anything like that but I don't know how important that is tbh.

After you defeat enemies on a ship you can either PLUNDER (Blow up, take parts, money, etc) or You can take it as your own. I haven't taken any either. You get money from blowing ships up and I like the explosions.

Watch your food and moral. You can get scurvy, wet and miserable, bleeding, etc. Different things that affect your morale and health.

Pros:
  • Good for Casual gamers or games that like strategizing. Believe it or not you actually do need to plan ahead.
  • Fun, cute, really easy to catch on to.
  • Variety while not having too many new things thrown at you.
  • Lots of fun customizing to do (Okay I'm just a sucker for this kind of stuff)
  • Simple at its core
  • Charming atmosphere
  • Great time waster
  • Way too good a time waster did I seriously play for like 3 hours straight tonight???
  • Autosaves after reaching islands/towns
  • Lots of things to learn in game without making it complicated

Cons:
  • Some glitches like any game, you can get stuck from time to time. Just reload game.
  • Not good for people who want a lot of fast paced action
  • Not sure if there's space to branch out. Maybe different themed games in the future (Pixel Space??) but this game is what it is. It's always going to be what it is. Updates can't do much without changing the game entirely

Overall I have to say give it a shot if you need something to do while you're bored. I promise you'll realize you've just spent two hours controlling tiny pixel art pirates sailing and fighting other tiny pixel art pirates rather than sleeping. It's charming.

TL;DR
Cute, Charming, Time Wasting Strategy Game. Overall rating like idk 7.7/10. Would lose track of time again.

Now I have to go get the laundry from the dryer, it's been sitting there for a while....

If you like Harvest Moon you'll like this.

This follows the basic chemistry of most of the newer Harvest Moon games [Animal Parade especially] and it's completely charming. I can't really think of anything bad to say about it and really recommend any fan of Harvest Moon check this game out.

The fishing is a little bit tricky to get a hang of at first but practice makes perfect (And I'm fairly sure that some of the difficulties I've had are due to skill level and tools vs the fish required)

Occasionally I'll notice that the controls can be a little sticky on screen changes. Now and then I'll be pressing down and going up but it's easily fixed by letting go of the control and starting again.

This game is incredibly likeable and detailed and fills the need I've had for a new Harvest Moon style game recently.

10/10 and more. I love it!

Very cute and lots of fun. I've only played a little bit so far but I'm really enjoying myself. If you want a casual game that you can play inbetween other games I'd recommend this one.

I get a very Scribblenauts feel from the game itself, though a more simplistic form of it and since I'm a fan of Scribblenauts this was easy for me to enjoy.

Fantastic game with a unique concept. Love the music and the style.

I haven't played all the way through yet but from what I've seen so far I have to say I really am enjoying this game. Some of the controls take getting used to but that's coming from someone who's not very good at platforming games.

I'm interested to see how the game will unfold.
