A fun casual horror game with a very morbid beginning.
Worth it if you get it on sale (Got mine for like $2.50 after watching some streamers play the beginning).
Kind of niche so I would look into the first 10 min of gameplay to see if you like the play-style.

PLEASE NOTE:
The controls on the PC port are clunky and some people have crashing issues.
I would not recommend playing this game without a controller.

The out of the box "Controller support" does not work with any of the xbox one, xbox 360, or gamepads I have. I was able to fix this however by going to steam settings > Controller > General Controller Settings then check the boxes on EVERYTHING to have controller support enabled for any device you can think of. Doing this made the game start working with my xbox 360 controller.

Update after completion of the game:

This game has some puzzles that can be convoluted at times, however with persistence and or a game guide this no longer becomes an issue. The story is overall engaging and a fun mostly casual horror experience. It mixes elements of cute character designs and fun item descriptions with some dark subject matter and an enjoyable horror game.

The one thing that nearly killed the experience for me without spoiling any of the plot is that near the very end of the game you are forced to try and run past large hand enemies down a narrow path. There are community posts about how BS it is that the enemies not only have incorrect hit boxes, but you also have to greatly rely on luck or getting the ai stuck to continue on. After about probably 30min-1hr I was able to finally figure out how to bug out the first AI to get stuck on small poles to continue onward. The second AI commonly gets stuck on a pole unless you hug the lower part of the map which sounds like a good thing until you realize it often forces a player death by blocking the path.

Even though I was eventually able to get past them by beating my head against a wall, this level of flawed game design is one of the worst instances I have ever seen. Even having played countless hours of dark souls and many unforgiving games this task was an extreme and unenjoyable task to complete which I doubt many casual players would be willing to stick it out long as I was to complete the story. This is a shame considering that not only is the story enjoyable, but this happens right before the final boss of the game which is much easier and there are probably many out there who could not finish the story right at the end due to negligence on the creator.

If this was the only flaw with the game it could still be fine, but with the poor optimization of the PC port where many other users reported crashing, the clunky pc controls/not working controller support out of the box, and some extremely convoluted puzzles at times this game is hard to recommend without any fixes from the creators (which I doubt will happen since this game was released about 8 years ago).

Even with all of the flaws I still recommend this game for its unique story and memorable intro for anyone who is willing to look past its flaws and is persistent enough to complete the main story. Even if you get stuck on the last level like I did, Id recommend looking up the ending of the game for a satisfying conclusion to the game.

The modding community for this game is insane. The damage output gap with guns could use some work (headshots are like instant death and normal bullets are paintballs), but the developers as well have kept adding to this game for years. Feels like a new game after returning back to it after about a year.

Not the typical game I like playing. After being finally convinced to get the game once multiple friendgroups told me to get it I tried it out. The base game itself is ok, but playing this game in VR and with friends is what makes it really fun

Review as of 2/7/25:

Although I disagree a lot where this game is headed I wanted to update my review back to positive because they did at least in their most recent survey start to include "Other" options that are openended response fields. They might only be for specific things and still never asked for feedback on many gamebreaking/gamechanging mechanics added during or after the engine update I appreciate them trying to at least reach out to the community and being willing to add an open ended response type field. Because of this I am keeping my word and updating my review to an unenthusiastic positive one.

Review as of 8/25/24:

With the update taking away many xbox and playstation players the ability to play this game they paid for with the engine update along with forcing a lot of players to either upgrade their hardware or use FSR/DLSS in order the run the game is crazy to me. I have good hardware (3070 TI) and I see major frame drops even with DLSS on.

Besides the engine change I mainly am updating my review to negative as the recent survey lacks any place for feedback with the major changes to drastically increased burning, the extreme necro nerf, and buffing already powerful shotguns to outclass most mid range rifles. I hate to leave a bad review for the game, but apparently its the only way for players' voices to be heard by them at the moment. I will change my review when the devs listen to player feedback on these issues.

Review from first playing the game:
Slow but rewarding battle royal with monsters and old styled weapons. If you are looking for a fast paced battle royal that is super casual I would not recommend this game. Most of the time you will probably be slowly gathering equipment and clues, trying to take out low tiered monsters silently not to alert the whole map where you are with 1 gunshot, and listening to small sound cues such as footsteps or monsters being agroed for other players to sneak attack. It can be fun to run in like a madman at times, but if you are looking for the win most of the time this isnt the best strategy. Stealth is key in this game but it is possible to win without it. Just hope you don't get rushed, get sniped, have better equipment, and/or are just lucky. Although this sounds like an intense and boring game due to its small lobby size and slow gameplay every kill feels super rewarding and a huge step towards to winning.

This game has snipers, active camo, explosives (including a mini-nuke launcher) , and even a built in sarcasm button. I couldn't be more satisfied.
