great remake, launch seems to have been a bit messy but it's quite good now

not exactly a 1 to 1 remake of the original, it's got a lot of changes compared to the original so if you're looking to play an exact copy with some visual changes you're in the wrong place here, but this as a stand-alone game holds up very well

pros:
fun gunplay
building characters is quite fun, can become a real powerhouse
good build variety
fun streaks to play with
good soundtrack (nostalgic, also)
great devs
actual boss fights

cons:
few bugs that seem to be going unpatched for awhile now
insane difficulty mainly relies on giving the bots insane stats compared to you, instead of making the game harder through mechanics or hard missions
boss fights are kinda tedious if u replay them
20 dollars is a bit much for a game this short, would be more fair around 10-15

Starting this review with a quick disclaimer that i do not enjoy most survival games, especially ones that are very heavy on building / sitting afk waiting for crafting.

For this reason, i was very hesitant to start V Rising, but i'm very glad i did. The combat is exceptionally well done, with amazing bosses. They get difficult, but i'm yet to find anything unfair. Even pushing enemies far above my current gear score (15-20 levels up) has been okay as long as you learn the fights, and even when you equal their level they don't just get steamrolled. Abilities are satisfying to use, and the ability to swap them wherever, whenever, for free, is amazing. I've had to do some shorter equipment grinds, but they always end up being a lot more than just "punch tree until tree gone" as there are unique mobs everywhere that will mess you up (or drop amazing loot, if you manage to beat them)

There are still a few negatives in my eyes:

I never pushed for endgame gear before unlocking the next gear step, though i'm willing to practice bosses multiple times and take them on significantly below their gear level. If you aren't able/willing to do this, then a few bosses (Quincy, Octavian) will effectively be walls you have to get past to progress.

Some crafting materials take over an hour to craft. This isn't nearly as bad as you can craft multiple of the same machine, and you can simply throw in materials and let it run, but it still gets annoying.

Past the intro quests explaining to you how to craft and what weapons are good at, the quests do a great job at explaining the servant system, and not much else.

There is basically 0 griefing protection, so if you're planning to play on a public server with random people, do be careful. I highly recommend playing on a private server either by yourself, or with friends.


Highly recommend getting it even while in early access, it's definitely worth it.

Also actually has a good story, if you're in to that.

I start the game up. Need to make account on Uplay, which bugged sometimes. But okay, then i got it. Really excited to play this amazing long cool game in which you can do cool stuff. So i started it. And it crashed. Once. Twice. About 8 times later, it got to the loading cutscene. No screen. Then it bugged out again. ****ed around with the settings, my own drivers, and finally it works. 3 fps, not that much to do, and lil dumb AI. Not that fun at all.
