Good fun, this.

Not the most complex game, and not everything is perfect, but particularly with a friend you'll have a great time, and there is a surprisingly large amount of context - I'm up to 15 hours in a single playthrough with one friend so far, and we aren't bored yet.

A great game made by crap devs who'll probably end up screwing this one over like they did Medieval Engineers at some point.

This game would be brilliant.

This game would be incredible.

If only it didn't require you to make an account in their bloody proprietry system. As it is, the login button does literally nothing and I can't play multiplayer. Steam integration would really be the way to go.

Shadow Warrior is a brilliant game. One of the best games I've ever played, to be entirely honest. The gameplay is fun and feels fluid - cutting up demons with a Katana with this level of dismemberment is rather satisfying as well. The story is alright, not particularly special but not bad either - but the cutscenes are surprisinly beautiful. The characters are all good (especially protagonist Lo Wang - and his conversations with Hoji). The graphics are, well, average for 2013. That is not to say they are bad, but they aren't the best. The lighting effects are great, however, making all of the scenery look fantastic.

All in all, I would certainly recommend this game. It's fun, it took me twenty-two hours to complete, and is a worthy successor to the original game. I would probably buy it on sale though, as £29.99 for a 2013 game is a little steep in my opinion.

I love this game. It was everything I had hoped it would be. It features the same authentic, one-shot kill mechanics of the earlier games (which were also brilliant) and adds helicopters and grenade launchers. The hit detection can occasionally be a bit off, which is a shame, and the maps are not the best of the series, but overall it's a lot of fun.

--EDIT--

Not as one-shot killy as it used to be, which is a shame, but I still recommend it.

--EDIT NO. 2--

There is at the moment a server-killing bug which hasn't been fixed even after almost half a year, this is slowly killing off the playerbase and it really makes me sad to see.

--EDIT NO. 3--

The recent sale has given it a major injection of new players, and I'm remembering why I both love and hate this game.

[h]Are you tired of simply looking at memes? Do you feel you would be happier playing your memes instead?[/h]

Well, now you can.

Montaro is a fun time-waster, but little more than that. It sees you playing as a doge, stealing girls' pantsu..... Yeah.... It's a wierd game. The graphics are simple but cute, the music is good but forgettable, the gameplay is utterly simplistic, and it's about the only infinite-running one-button game I've ever enjoyed. The variety is actually pretty big, with a multitude of enemy and background types. It is fun for a while, but if you play it for than about 20 minutes straight you start to get a bit bored.

I keep it on my computer mainly just for when my wi-fi performs seppuku, just to pass the time as it restarts. And it serves that purpose well.

Catlateral Damage Review

This game is a masterpiece. Nothing else comes close to it. In Catlateral Damage, one plays as a cat, with the sole task of doing exactly what cats do best: knocking stuff on the floor.

Gameplay

The gameplay is well done, with everything working as it should. It's a simple idea, literally all you do is walk and jump and swat. But the developers have done a fantastic job with this, the only problem is getting used to the jump height. Now, I don't know much about cats, but being able to jump more than half a metre off the ground seems like a lot to me. This means that you'll often mess up your jumps and fail to get onto ledges and tables.

The way everything falls seems very real and is wholly satisfying. The upgrades and power-ups are useful, but really only a minor thing in the game, and the developers have avoided making the aim of the game to be getting all the upgrades, something that just wouldn't seem right in a game like this.

The events are an extremely fun thing that just happen every so often, randomly. Things like moon gravity, or killing the little red lights, or a disco. They just make you laugh when they happen.

Aim of the Game

The aim of the game is to knock everything on the floor, and to unlock cat photos. And boy, are there a lot of cat photos.

The game is collection based, where you build a collection of items to drop on the floor. They are divided into multiple categories, such as appliances, clothes, etc.

Gamemodes

There are two gamemodes; Objective mode and Litterbox mode.

In Objective mode, you are placed into a randomly generated location, and you have to knock a set amount of items onto the floor within a time limit.

In Litterbox mode, you go to that location again, without the time limit. The aim is to knock every single item in the location onto the floor. There is no time limit, but that doesn't mean it's easy, especially in the Supermarket and Mewseum, which have several thousand objects each!

Level Design

The levels are randomly generated, with the exceptions of the Supermarket and Mewseum. These two are the same every time, but are so big and awesome that you wouldn't notice.

The levels are well made, and you can always find some totally cat-like way of climbing up to every shelf or wardrobe. The feeling you get from succesfully parcour-ing up to the highest shelf in a room is immensly satisfactory.

Graphics/Visuals

The graphics are not great. They are simplistic and there are no fancy lighting effects. That is not to say it doesn't look nice, because it still does. It has it's own unique style, and I personally find that it is still aesthetically pleasing.

The texturing and modelling on the objects is very basic, just boxes with coloured rectangles, but you can always tell what the objects are meant to be.

Performance

The game runs surprisingly well. I have two copies of it on two separate computers; one for myself and one for my sister. I play on a 2010 MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM, a 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo and an NVidia GeForce 320M. The game runs smoothly at the highest graphics settings (called Purrfect). For my other copy, I'm using a 2007 Intel iMac, with 2GB of RAM, a 2.8 GHz single-core processor and an integrated Intel graphics card. It lags on anything other than the lowest graphics setting, but runs them extremely smoothly, at roughly 35 FPS, solidly. The game will lag on occasion, but only when you're knocking around ten items into the air simultaneously (this usually only happens on bookshelfs).

Misc.

There are many random things about this which I like, but do not, however, fit into any of the main categories.

  • Trading Cards - everyone loves Steam Trading Cards, right?
  • Achievments - a way to show how far you've come
  • The 'f' key - pressing it can do three different things:
    1. On large objects, you bite them
    2. On smaller objects, you pick them up in your mouth
    3. Without an object, you just meow
  • There are Atari 2600s - everyone's favourite games console

THE CONCLUSION

This games is fantastic for just messing around in, good for stress relief or if you're having a bad day and just can't quite complete that mission in Jedi Academy. The price of £6.99 is a bit much for what it is, though, so wait untill it's on sale to purchase it, but when it is on sale, purchase it immediately!

This game is awesome. Seriously, it's really, really awesome. And it teaches you physics. So you pass your exams. Win-win.

I feel like listing the pros and cons. Because that's what everyone else does. And it gives you a better idea of the game.

PROS:

- Physics: Explosive stuff explodes, stuff that looks like a plane flies (mostly), spaceships fly like spaceships, stuff that looks like a rover WILL flip over.
- Visuals: The graphics are not as good as some games, but they are definitely good enough. I particularly like all the small details, like the way the RAPIER engine puffs before going out, or the cockpit details, or the little ridges on the engines, or the way the landing gear closes up.
- Career Mode: Feels like you're really running a space agency, and you really feel worried when you crash a rocket into a building and don't have enough money to rebuild it.
- Sandbox Mode: It's also nice to be able to say, "Stuff it, I can't afford this, nor can I wait long enough to invent really powerful rocket engines! Give me everything for free!"
- The way spacecraft just feel like they 'work': The difference between the different engine sizes, the weight distribution problems, the new aerodynamics model, everything theoretically 'works'. My spaceships don't actually work. They explode.
- The difficulty: This game is hard. Very hard. But only if you make it so. If you stick to low-altitude flights and don't try to go to Jool straight away, this game is very possible to play. And slowly, very slowly, you'll get better, and be able to get to Jool.
- Small green beings: Kerbals themselves are very cute. I want one. Anyone know where to buy a Kerbal Plushy?
- Mods: When 1.0 was released, I deleted all my mods and started afresh, so I don't know if they still work. But in Beta, I was greatly enhancing my experience with mods like BDArmoury, B9 Aerospace, KW Rocketry, Chatterer (A completely useless but nonetheless fantastic mod) and Infernal Robotics.
-Performance: This game doesn't need a supercomputer to run. I can run it fine on a six-year-old MacBook Pro, no problems. I do have the occasional lagspike when a lot is happening at once, and the framerate tops out at around 35 FPS on a good day, but it certainly ain't unplayable.

Cons:

- Difficulty: Yeah. I know. That was a Pro as well. But as I said earlier, some things are very hard. Like getting to Jool.
- Lack of an autopilot: The game could do with someone who could fly. Because for a long time, you won't be that someone.
- The load times: This game has a lot to load in, and it takes a long time.
- Lack of stuff: This game has a lot of stuff, but could do with more.
- Problems with adding stuff to wings: Elevons, Landing Gear, and engines are really hard to fix on properly.
- Lack of smaller pre-built wings.

So in conclusion, this game awesome. Really, really awesome. Totally fantastic. I love it.

Thanks for reading!

EDIT: I need to update a review of a game I nominated for the Steam Awards to get the badge, so I will say this: I have nominated this game for the 'I thought this game was cool before it won an award' Award.

This game is brilliant. For stress relief, there is nothing better. The music is beautiful, the graphics are simple but nice, and the way you just endlessly swing from block to block is suprisingly relaxing. I warn you however, prolonged exposure to this game will make you fall asleep on your computer. And when you wake up you will have a keyboard imprinted into your face. Which will look stupid. Oh, and it's free, so you get to try it out, find out how much you love it, and keep it, without spending a penny. Perfect.
