I've played 4x games for 1000s of hours and can say with confidence that this is the absolute peak of the genre. You're completely missing out if you skip this game. 100x better than civ!

This game is staggeringly well written, and I connected to it very strongly. If you believe in games as art, the this is a necessary experience.

This game is my favorite roguelike this year! Balatro is an excellent exhibition of the genres traditional mechanics, nestled into a perfect format for the kind of decision making i find so compelling in a rogue like. This is a close second to FTL for me.
