Strongly recommend.

Fantastic gunplay. The guns are so varied they all have different ammo types, firing mechanics, reloading mechanics, upgrades and more. It gets so deep you have to learn individual reloading mechanics depending on say if the weapon is an open or closed bolt weapon system. Despite all the depth, the mechanics never feel like a drag or take away from the high octane combat. It supplements it perfectly. Level design is also a boon. While levels tend to look same-samey artistically, the actual design allows for a lot of freedom in its approach. Its just as fun to sneak around sniping enemies as it is to run in there with a shotgun and get close and personal. In addition the game has a plethora of different enemy types to keep things fresh and interesting. Different enemies can demand different approaches so you really get to use all the weapons you are given.

The lore for this game is actually pretty insane. Very Dark Souls in its storytelling, but enough hints that you can kinda understand whats going on while leaving you wanting more. In the steam community forums someone made an 181 page pdf that goes over all the lore in the game and its very much worth a read when you are done playing. It's as dark and messed up as the rest of the game but also a very creative, well thought out plot. A ton of fun and honestly whatever Youtuber decides to make a 2 hours lore video on this will probably pop-off due to how interesting and in-depth it all is.

The art style is not going to be to everybody's taste. The gore in this game is intense. Probably has the more intense gore in any videogame I've ever played. I honestly wouldn't recommend playing it with the gore on unless you are desensitized to violence. That said the gore isn't ever glorified, in fact it's the opposite. It really is there to fit the greater aesthetics and tone of the game. If it does bother you there is a gore toggle in the settings so it's still worth it to play this game. The half naked anime girls I can't really defend. Developer knows what he (and the people playing the game) likes and honestly I'm here for it. The setting and characters is very BLAME! inspired which is leads to some really unsettling yet great designs for some of the machine gods. The entire aesthetic is going to be very subjective but if you're into it, it's really really great.

Really the biggest negative I have with this game is the performance wasn't ever as good as I felt like it should be, and the mouse would sometimes freak out when moving around quickly. It's not a deal breaker but I would have loved if it was butter smooth. Feels like it should be because its not like this game is pushing a bunch of pixels.

Overall for 15 bucks this game is absolutely worth it. In fact its worth it to pick up the bundle with the first game in it for $27 and play that first then this. The Beyond Citadel is just a evolution to the first game The Citadel where there's just more of everything and its mechanics are a little more refined. I can't wait for the third game in the series and will probably be picking up and playing it day one.

Wow. what can I say? Best game I've played since Outer Wilds. There's very few games that can leave me awestruck quite like Cairn can. It's kinetic in a way I've never experienced before in a game. Every crack, every hand hold, and every wall you shimmy up is earned. You're constantly fighting the elements, your own dwindling resources, and your self. You need to move slow and deliberately to keep from falling. This game demands your absolute attention and concentration. But whenever you finish climbing a wall you just gotta turn back around and look at what you've accomplished. Knowing despite it all, you still managed to get yourself over the wall. It not only capture the feeling of why you climb, it captures the feeling of why you do it. Now I'm sure quite a few people will bounce off this game because of how brutal and intensive it can be. You can lose chunks of progress from death and are constantly on the edge of running out of resources to keep you alive. There was a moment when I first saw the Palace of Wind and The Peril climb from afar and I honestly put down my controller for 4 or 5 days. I really almost didn't pick it back up again. But I'm glad i did. The gameplay, story, music and atmosphere really combine to make this special in a way that is difficult to describe without playing it yourself. Give it a try.

I'm just here to counter all the Chinese accounts that tried to censor this game through review bombing.
