I recommend this game with the caution that it is still far buggier than it should be at launch.

That the said, the game itself is such a good baseline that I still recommend it if you're interested in a grand strategy game covering the period. With the exception of the abyssmal failure that was Imperator: Rome, each of the current generation of grand strategy games from Paradox offers it's own, unique experience with very different focuses. Crusader Kings 3 is heavily focused on the individual personalities of the rulers. Hearts of Iron 4 is detailed strategic warfare. Victoria 3 now is focused on politics and includes other aspects of management (ie: warfare and economy) largely focused on how they interact with politics.

What it does it does largely well. The bugs, however, though not frequent, can be game breaking, but they are bugs, not missing features. They're sorts of problems that should be fixed with updates and patches, rather than having to wait on paid DLC. They range from the silly, like anyone who ceases to be a faction leader immediately dying, to the absolute game breaking, like wars with no fronts that can never be ended.

If these don't get fixed in a reasonable period of time, my reccomendation would change, but as of today I'd rather than have the game as-is than waiting for months longer to get it.
