INTRO

As a note I received this game for free as a review copy, regardless of this my review will be fully honest as I firmly believe games can grow and become better with honest reviews instead of reviews that downplay issues with the game or suck up to the developer of said game.

Intown Nightmares is a indie horror anthology game developed by 0-Game Studios. A one man Russian studio and their second game ever made. Intown Nightmares takes place in the town of Intown where we learn in chapter 0 that something that went wrong at a research facility has led to a string of strange events through multiple years. Chapter 0 has us following a woman left in a forest cabin to pick mushrooms along side a pig. Chapter 1 has us falling victim to a hazard spill at an apartment building that leads to an ever growing mold. Chapter 2 feels very Silent Hill and Alan Wake like with the character being on a "show" and must come to terms with what he has done. There is a total of 5 chapters some with multiple endings, multiple options that can land you different achievements and more. At the price of $7.49 on steam we'll dive into the game and see if it's a game you should snag with some pocket change for a quick nightly thrill, if you should wait for a sale or pass it all together. We will rate each section
from gameplay to story and take a count on how many bugs exist before release and how well the game runs, tally them up and give an over all score.

STORY 5/10

Intown nightmares follows 7 protagonists across 7 chapters with a prologue, the 5 main chapters and an epilogue taking place from 1975 to 2026. The individual stories are inconsistent with their story telling and some chapters such as chapter 0, chapter 2 and chapter 3 feeling a bit too rushed and some cutscenes happening so fast that you barely get to follow along. The overall story that connects the 7 chapters told in pieces through these chapters is decently paced with chapters 4 and 5 having great pacing overall. Each story follows a different theme and setting from picking mushrooms in the woods near the Intown Research Facility to a an apartment taken over by mold to a man having to come to terms with his actions, a town swallowed in darkness and one taken over by a blizzard that is akin to the day after tomorrow's freeze. The story draws clear inspirations from horror media such as Silent Hill, Alen Wake, The Day After Tomorrow, The Last of Us and even some cosmic horror media such as H.P. Love Craft's works and more.

GAMEPLAY 8/10

The gameplay for most of the game is pretty solid aside form some minor hiccups such as in chapter 2 in the basement section where the only consistent way to clear the section is to just keep tapping W over and over till you reach the end as holding W for a millisecond too long instantly restarts you at the beginning of the section. The camera and controls for the game are smooth and overall very responsive and never did I feel like I was fighting with the controls overall aside from chapter 2's basement. Chapter 5 had the most intense gameplay where the enemies are given weeping angel mechanics in a dark barely lit environment that at times made me tense up and it cleverly punishes the user for trying to rush through the segment using sprint by alerting all enemies nearby to start following you forcing you to take your time and be stealthy. The weapon play for Chapters 1, 4 and 5 felt overall fine with chapter 4 being the most lack luster of them all where it isn't clear exactly what the hitbox is for the pipe at the start and chapter 5 and 1 having the strongest weapon gameplay where it was responsive and smooth. The sound design overall is solid with ambience and music that tends to fit the mood, only issue is some audio loops in an inconsistent spot and it's very noticeable.

BUGS, GLITCHES AND JANK 9/10

A lot of animations are pretty janky and poorly done and some of the translations lead to unintentional text that makes no sense or just sound like rambling. With the translation issues though I won't hold too much points against it as this is a solo developer from Russia and English isn't the easiest language even for someone who speaks it like myself.

In chapter 1 if you run at the corner of the kitchen table in your apartment where it meets the wall just right you'll glitch out of bounds and into the void forcing you to have to restart the chapter from the latest checkpoint.

In the labyrinth of Chapter 2 if you walk backwards at the start you can fall into the void below due to a lack of anything stopping you. Only found this out because of curiosity.

In chapter 4 if you go through the portal device before it actually activates you can soft lock yourself behind it

Overall there weren't many to be found on my playthrough giving this section a solid clear with a 9/10 ranking.

OUTRO Overall Score: 7/10

All in all Intown Nightmares is a decently solid attempt at a horror anthology game from a game developer who has only made 2 games and made a sudden jump from 2D to 3D and is their first horror game project. I recommend picking up the game if you got some pocket change to spare for a quick horror thrill that'll not only support a one man team trying their best but help fund any future projects they plan to make. I look forward to seeing what they will do in the future

Don't buy it, they ran out of cod keys and are selling a broken product, i shouldn't have to download a third party program to play it, just pirate it

for such a small dev team this is a refreshing 18+ furry game that is actually interesting, from the open world to npcs and more its good for non nsfw too (but thats not why any of us are here) though some suggestions i have are adding ♥♥♥ to add a layer of immersion when characters climax in scripted moments (and showroom and wild breed ♥♥♥♥♥) i look forward to see where this game goes from here

The recent decision to add EAC is a huge let down, not only does it invite a legal trojan to watch your system it makes you more open to attacks from hackers. It also takes away mods that helped the disabled enjoy the game. On top of vrc devs censoring people in questionable ways makes this even more of a circus.

EDIT: 12/11/24 Game still blows, Kernel level anti cheat for a social vr game is still the dumbest thing ever, the age verification does jack all to stop the rampant grooming issues that the team turns a blind eye to, this is what happens when you hire a creepo onto the staff team and let him run the show

EDIT: 3/29/25 Not as bad anymore but not good either, its bareable now
