I have changed this review to positive after the successful protest against Sony's decision to make it mandatory to sign up and link a PSN account to steam. So here's my short form review of Helldivers 2. I'll try to update it more in time.

Helldivers 2 is honestly one of the best gaming experiences I have had in a long time, and I've been playing games for 30 years.

It's a 3rd person cooperative action shooter where you and up to 3 other players drop onto a map and complete mission objectives before calling in a ship to extract. The weapons feel weighty and the sound design for them is incredible. Impact of each weapon has the perfect amount of punch to it and you can see the damage you deal to enemies rather than just an arbitrary number with a health bar.

There are several different currencies in the game. but only one is "premium". I say that in quotations because it is easily obtainable through gameplay. No ridiculous grind in sight. The battlepasses, known as "warbonds" release on the 2nd thursday of every month and they do not expire. so you are free to play the game at your own pace and unlock them as you see fit. they can only be unlocked with medals, a currency only acquired through gameplay. so you can't just buy everything, you have to put in the time.

I'm no professional reviewer, and this is one of the few games I've actually left a review on. So check some other reviews and watch some youtube videos if you think this game may be for you. But what I can say is the community is awesome, and the way they game makes you as a player, a part of the narrative, feels so cool. I can recount the stories of how we liberated Tien Kwan to unlock our Mech Suits. How we lost Malevelon Creek, and finally took it back. It's a game unlike anything I've played before.
