I've been mainlining this game since I started playing it - like day 4 of 1.0. I really want to love this game. Piracy is a life skill. There's life skills for everything. I affectionately called it Temu BDO.

However:
There's an enchantment system in the game to get equipment as far as +15. Probability tables show you'll spend more than 100 of the "break protection" items that you can buy for real money ($15 USD) to get to +11. The scaling is exponential, too. A +15 weapon is speculated to be like 800% or more stronger than a base weapon.

Most recently (5 March 2026) they've shadow nerfed exp gain for life skills because "it wasn't intended to be that way" when it's consistently "been that way since Early Access". Nothing in patch notes, just dumpster fires and rioting. There are already people that have funneled resources into one player or a cartel of crafters that are sitting at max level, now getting to monopolize the markets even longer.

This comes after a patch to increase mob density for leveling - where they didn't decrease drop rate to account for more creatures being killed. The people that were able to take advantage of this, well, did. They reverted the density update a few hours after the start - with the ripples of the economic impact still being felt.

I'm wary of spending more time or money on this game, because every "fix" is coming at the detriment of a community that's already gotten comfortable with the status quo. The devs or mod team claim to be focused on the long term health of the game, but with every update, they're driving more of the playerbase away.

Update (6 March 2026)
The developers rolled back their change to lifeskill exp after outcry from the community. After investing close to 500 hours in the game since launch a month ago, I'm still wary to fully recommend this game because of the changes they seem to make without considering how the community is going to take it, but I can also recognize that you won't make everyone happy, and democracy is tyranny of the masses. There's a strong framework for what this game CAN become, but there's also some glaring problems with community censorship, too.

All that aside, the GMs are active and respond to tickets quicker than literally any other game I've played, ever. Even compared to "private servers" in games like Garrys Mod, Ark, etc., where the community staff isn't stretched so thin. That's a big plus.

Update: 7 April 2026

I can't convince myself to play the game anymore. It feels like a gambling simulator packaged in a gacha game. Too much real money investment into a percentage chance to be noticeably stronger than someone who may not have the $15/week or $100s/day to buy more accounts to get a competitive advantage. The combat is very same-y, and the only option aside from dumping your income into the game is to grind mobs for hours on end.

A common phrase among the more hardcore players references "circle game", where you're legitimately pulling clusters of monsters together for hours on end to earn currency in-game (because it's the best currency/hour option) to buy the thing other people are making alt accounts to bypass. It's not a small margin, either.

Last I consciously tried, I could earn 50-60m currency in an hour, grinding solo (because loot split isn't worth taking friends). Someone was selling a single Tera Protect for 700m in global today. I've busted 8 of those on my staff trying to go from +3 to +8. I think there's a 6% chance of going to +9. My staff could quick sell for about 2-3 billion. Mathematically, you're better off accumulating LOADS of money to buy a marginal improvement, or spending your income to do your own upgrades.

Dungeons are generic, unchanging, underwhelming, and under-rewarding. They're how you get upgrade materials.

But hey, they just released an "Elite" jewelry augment that you can use after you get to +10 jewelry...it only takes 100 blueprint items to also be able to do that...among other considerable investment.

Good luck catching up.
