One of the best games to come out in a long time. Yes, it lives up to the hype. It's not perfect, with it being hamstrung by how dull the 5e ruleset is and the way the story peters out in Act III, but nothing ever is and this comes quite close to it. Top tier RPG and must-buy for any fan of the genre.

I enjoy this game and will continue playing it. Combat's great, lots of fun to play. But it's a BAD game and the company is even worse. I don't recommend buying it right now. Come back in a year when maybe they will have fixed the terrible shop, the push for MTX, and the thousands of bugs and glitches present.

An incredible game with incredible flaws. Whilst it is, in my opinion, a downgrade from its predecessor this is still one of the best entries in the genre. Great story (if a little woke), wonderful setting and fun combat are sadly let down by a myriad of bugs and bad design choices which hamper an otherwise fantastic and immersive experience. Worth a look if you're remotely interested but go in with your eyes wide open as to its imperfections.

A very fun but disappointingly short experience.

An ok, but flawed, sequel to an ok but flawed game. I'm calling it "Not Recommended" because there's no neutral option.

It's "alright" however the glaring issues detract from the experience especially when compared to the first game in the series. It feels like a step backwards from the original in all honesty. It's shorter due to the push to get you to play it through four times, twice on each character at different chaos levels, and the level design is worse than its predecessor despite the fact the story is almost exactly the same. It's literally "oh no there's been a coup!" again.

The chaos system is also kinda lame, also worse than the last game. Why is it a bad thing that a vengeful, master assassin is killing the people who usurped and harmed his daughter, brought his homeland to ruin, and butchered countless people? There is literally no given reason, at all, to spare the people you're asked to. They're outright evil, yet your dead wife moans at you for doing the right thing and dispatching those who have done hideous things to her daughter.

I struggled to decide whether to recommend this or not. I've chosen to, conditionally. Bought it on sale, having some reasonable fun. Story and setting are, as per usual, good. But! There's a LOT I don't like about Fallout 4. It's an unworthy successor to Fallout: New Vegas, and I'll list why.

- Paid mods.
- All RPG elements have been ripped out of the game. No more skills. No traits. Half of the good perks have been replaced with stacking "20% more damage with X". No repair system on weapons and armour other than Power Armour so that detracts from the survival/scavengery feel of the other games where your weapons could jam if not maintained and you could break stuff.
- Dialogue has been restricted massively compared to previous games with four options at all times. Interface is clearly designed around a controller given the layout, too.
- Voiced protagonists with no voice options. Real lame in an RPG.
- Stealth does not work how it should. You fire a shot from a silenced weapon, half a mile away, and everyone comes running to you. Given this is based on the Skyrim engine and stealth/sniping worked super well, I'm quite shocked.
- Crafting is gated behind about 30 perks total, and the different tiers of perks require different levels. One of the main features of the game is weapon/amour customization but it requires a ridiculous amount of investment to get half the stuff. Need level 39 to build a suppressor for my new rifle. Why?
- Settlement Minecraft is good if you're twelve or autistic. Interface is trash, as are the controls. Again, like dialogue, it's clearly designed for consoles and does not make use of the superior control a keyboard and mouse grants.
- PAID MODS.
- Overall it's just... Lacking. Feels like there's much less to do and much less to enjoy than in previous titles. Somehow, games that are years older, have more content.

It's a very on-rails openworld shooter. Not an RPG. It's decent, but not what was promised. If you're expecting more F:NV, prepare to be disappointed. Buy on sale.

A very good game but by no means flawless. Gameplay itself is very fun but it has numerous issues in the systems the game uses. Always-on DRM sucks and there's no option for offline single player. Hell, you are required to be online at all times or the game literally closes with no way to simply "log back in" and instead you have to relaunch the damned thing. Couple this with the notorious "backend" errors where the game cannot communicate with the 3rd party servers the devs decided to use for the game and you may find yourself booting up Vermintide 2 a few times. There's a lot of bugs currently in the game also which, while in the process of being patched out bit by bit, can be frustrating especially when your block doesn't work or you get hit by attacks that were clearly out of range.

Overall I'd definitely recommend this game to anyone remotely interested but be prepared to encounter a few problems, because the game has ample.

Without a doubt the best game in it's genre. Excellent mechanics and graphics, beautiful music and compelling, interesting characters. I wouldn't say it's worth the full price but then I'm loathed to spend above £30 for any game nowadays. Absolutely recommend purchasing this game to anyone even remotely interested in it.

An excellent game and well worth picking up on sale. Although it advertizes itself as "Metroidvania" it' actually much more linear than is the norm for the genre, with your character progressing from zone to zone in a set order under very specific guidance. It doesn't detract from the game, mind, but it may be a turn-off for die hard fans of the classic genre.

PLAY WITH A CONTROLLER.

No, seriously. It's almost mandatory.

Stealth is perhaps my favourite genre of games and the original Styx, while often overlooked and not without it's flaws, was one of my favourite games of this genre. Shards of Darkness is, essentially, more of the same. Which is a good thing. Like the original it's not without flaws but the core mechanics are brilliantly done and the stealth remains one of the best implementations I've seen of any game. You really feel sneaky, and helpless in real combat, so it's evident the devs did a great job once again at portraying a goblin assassin/thief in a world full of big, strong, humans.

That said however I do feel this is inferior to the original. The big draw of this game is Styx as a character and seeing how popular he was originally they've decided to develop his personality further and in my eyes they've done a poor job. He's basically Deadpool - full of fourth wall breaks and meta references. I don't have a problem with that and in the previous installment Styx did both a little bit but it's fairly over-the-top in this game and I find it a touch jarring. Dying and then being told to order a pizza is just out of place in this game, in my opinion.

The score is incredibly done filled with plucky bits of cello and violin along with the pitter-patter of drums to really set the scene as you creep about, and the string instruments make the epic moments all the more epic when they pick up the pace. I do miss the wonderfully animated cartoony cutscenes from the first game but Shards of Darkness does have way better graphics and visuals overall. Storywise it's fairly forgettable and isn't really the game's focus, instead being an excuse for events of the game to happen and for Styx to be up to his old tricks but the setting and atmosphere is beautifully done. This steampunk-lite low-fantasy world is well executed with level design being brilliant.

I recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the original, but if you haven't played the original then go and do so - it's a better game.
