Not sure what's worse. Inflation or inflated ego DLC prices.

There are some good points in the game, but calling it Souls-like may have killed the experience for me. I was expecting something rich in lore and a challenge where each fight will be difficult but fulfilling. But lets start with the pros first.

Pros:
-Large selection of posibilities for character customization
- Unreal engine makes the game look nice
- The characters are likeable, there is no "useless" character that only exists to drag you down
- The multiplayer system is similar to Dark Souls 3, making playing with your friends easily doable

Overall the game looks very nice, the cutscenes are done in a very anime style from appearance to movements and poses. If you're into that kind of stuff, this is the game you'll want to see. Each of the characters will help you in some way and there are no bad characters that you can take into battle that are significantly worse than another. The character creation section is also something you can spend a good chunk of your time messing around with, and I know a couple of people who would like to play this game for just that alone.

But now on to the bad parts.

Cons:
- Unsatisfying combat system
- Uninspired enemies
- Artificial difficulty
- Empty yet convoluted map design
- Shallow stories

There are a lot of things that I was hoping to be better with this game. At first I was jumping into the game expecting another game similar to Dark Souls since so many people were acclaiming that it was Souls-like. But it is just that. It has elements that are similar to Dark Souls, such as the leveling system, the 'bonfires', the 'flamekeepers', etc. But even when taking the 'Dark Souls' expectations out, there is still a lot left of the game that just feels unpolished.

When it came to combat, the attacks felt empty sound and animation wise and a lot of combat elements when even performed correctly would not be rewarded. Backstabs will fail to execute, and last second dodges wont give you Ichor. The most ridiculous being that you can MISS a tall enemy while wielding an equally large weapon such as the greatsword, targeted or untargeted. The weapon would go straight through the enemy while dealing no damage at all.

While on the topic of enemies, there are also a limited type of enemies that are thrown at you. Once you've seen one enemy, you will continue to see it through the rest of the game. Only one or two new enemies are introduced into each map area. The placement of them leaves something to be desired, as it soon becomes obvious that there is one hidden behind every turn to reach for you as soon as you pass, or they will crawl up out of a dead end. The enemies hit hard to punish players for not paying attention, but they also tend to swarm them into groups in some areas to make it 'difficult' to survive. Bosses can also suffer from the same. They deal high damage, but they are also easily stun locked or chain backstabbed, making boss fights even easier than actually getting to the boss itself. Each fight will last less than a minute.

The maps and the stories both suffer from the same issue. They are large, they look pretty, but they both are empty. I feel like they tried to spread too far on both aspects but that ended up in a lack of investment. The stories themselves are interesting, but you can't really feel for the characters. There are many characters, each with their own unique stories and situations, but despite having so many characters there really isn't any room left for developing them further to make them important to you.

The maps are also interesting and intriguing, but it fails in that you can tell which areas they spent more time thinking through. The first few maps feel like they have the right flow going, but once you start getting to the later maps they start to convolute. There is no clear path, there are multiple branches that go off and loop in onto itself and other branches, there are too many drop down areas to keep track of, deadends, and "shortcuts" just lead you to a shortcut to your shortcut to your shortcut... etc. In the end, there is only one true path.

Overall, I did not find myself enjoying this game as much as I thought I would. I enjoyed the little stories, but I doubt I will be finding myself thinking about it. Many people enjoy it for the anime aspects, and they do have a nice character creation system with many options to go wild with, but there is still more to be desired.

Another sigh of disappointment for another Telltale Game. Tragically its for one of my favorite game series this time. It just doesn't have that same gut punch humor and tackiness that the previous games had.
