That Alyx kid is the by-product of fanboyism. Hyping up the game on forums before launch, spending active time catching up on related news, as well as defending all the "haters" (realists) at/after launch. All this came down to never touching the game again and then ultimately not being able to refund it because they passed the 2h mark.

Now they sit in that forum actively trying to justify their buyer's remorse of a purchase by covering it up with the "I was just trolling all this time" excuse.
