Time for a serious post rather than alt-history.
Kaiserreich helped me realize I'm trans.
After Hearts of Iron 4 came out, I decided to start trying mods to enhance my gaming experience. One of them was a mod in which Germany wins WWI. Had some fun with that, helping develop the backstory. And later, I discovered the actual Kaiserreich mod, and started exploring the history of Imperial Germany.
I learned that Kaiser Wilhelm II had a daughter named Victoria Louise. When I saw her pics, I was absolutely enraptured by her beauty. I read as much as I could about her life, including how her marriage to Ernest Augustus was considered a happy ending for Romeo and Juliet. Fun fact: their wedding was the last major social event among European nobility before World War I.

I even went out and bought a rare book she wrote, which has many pictures of life as a royal in Imperial Germany. Yes, I was just that obsessed. Plus, if you don't have at least one rare book on your shelf, what business do you have owning books at all?
Not long after I got into the KR community, there was talk of a Twitter RP going around and I wanted to join. Without hesitation, I picked Duchess Vicky as my character. I also had Erwin Rommel, but I didn't really like playing him. I wanted to be VL.
There were some good times on the RP. I had a rivalry with Statthalter von Göring, was an ally to Chancellor Vorbeck. Some of that even made it onto this page. Eventually, the vanilla game added a path where she could become the ruler of Germany after a civil war overthrows the Nazis. I was so pleased when I managed to achieve that.

Gaming is often just an escape for many people. But for others, it allows you to explore things that you normally don't. A lot of my friends played characters of their opposite gender in D&D, and that experience has allowed them to discover things about themselves that were hidden from the world.
By the way, it is my hope that the KR devs will bring VL back into the game lore. There was one sub-mod where she can become Queen of France after you defeat the syndies, and that pleased me so much I've made it canon here.
