The game can be fun but the overall experience is miserable. It might be more consistently fun if you can stack 5 people, but you'll still have to contend with server issues such as disconnecting from a game or the server you're on crashing, which are sadly pretty consistent.

I stuck with it for 15 hours because I thought it might eventually be fun, since the premise seemed solid, but it didn't happen.
My issues with the game, in no particular order:
* Blobby textures, very obvious tiling, broken seams, floating props, etc.; the game generally looks scuffed
* There's also a fair bit of jank with the audio, movement and base building
* Writing is pretty bad, both audio & logs are mostly filler, the sort of thing you'd write just to check an item off your list
* Most importantly, progression is tedious. It's easy to miss stuff you need, and there's a lot of busywork (e.g. collect copper to make a copper wire to make a thing -- I'm zapping this thing into existence anyways, why do I need the intermediate step?, or watching the animation of the fabricator every single time)

Overall the (concept) of the visuals and the soundtrack are really solid, and while you CAN have cool moments, the rest of the execution (visuals and gameplay) are lacking and make the experience kind of bad. Maybe I played it wrong and I was supposed to have the wiki open on a second monitor, dunno. Wouldn't recommend.

The presentation makes the game feel like an alpha.
The core gameplay is not very fun.

Maybe in a few years?

Great game, a little buggy
But now Paradox broke the multiplayer just to add some always online garbage
DO NOT BUY

It is exactly what I want out of an autochess game.

This game was 70% of the way to being a timeless classic, but the developers refused to listen to the community and now it's basically dead.

It is a bit lacking in depth gameplay-wise, but still more involved than any MOBA I've experienced and very fun. Good play is rewarded, bad play is punished, as it should be. Balance is pretty good, though a few of the later characters feel oppressive.

Audio and graphics get the job done, not really the focus of the game.

Lore (Comics, cinematics, stories, anything...) could have been a nice way to retain the more casual players, but instead all money was spent on esports, a separate battle royale game, and adding items, which were all hated by the community at large.

You can still find matches, but mostly in NA.
The netcode struggles pretty hard above 200 ping, so if you're elsewhere, good luck.

I think this game might just be a parallel dimension Tribes: Ascend

There's some interesting ideas, but everything the game does feels very shallow at best, and unfun at worst.

The thing that bothered me the most was the alien languages, because it had so much potential to be fun and unique -- instead you run up to "alien.obj" and press the "dispense word" button.

Gameplay is just busywork, and pretty light on the "exploration" part, which is a shame. But the story is downright boring. If the game is not going to be mechanically engaging, at least make an effort to make it mentally so!

Audio is pretty rough, the moment you get down on a planet, expect to hear constant stampedes as the game spawns mobs around you. Sound effects are just off in general -- turning your ship, excavating terrain, interacting with objects... a lot of things just don't sound good. OST is mediocre.

The game, when the procedural generation allows it, is very pretty. And the premade assets, things actually look really good! One exception is player animations.

I do appreciate Hello Games for actually delivering on the promises made after the infamous launch this game had, but as it turns out the game they had planned was just kind of a boring mess.

I wanted to say that if you're curious you should still buy, because even if you dislike the game you're supporting a developer that tries to deliver on their word. But I really can't. This game as a whole feels like the most basic, barebones implementation of features possible so it can be added as a bullet point in the back of the box.

Do not buy.

Really boring. Borderlands 1 wasn't the best game ever by any means, but this is a massive downgrade.

Rock solid combat, easily one of the best, especially if you play with only one pawn (or even solo)
Everything else is either good or passable.

Early Access Review
I played this game when it had just come out, and it was a lot of fun.
And having just played again after a few months I can say: What an awful direction to take this game in.

Underlords are presented as the main attraction, but they feel out of place in a game about improvising a team out of RNG.
Heroes dropping out of rotation makes sense balance wise, but keeping track of which ones are out (even if the game does it for you) doesn't really add any fun.
UI is still bad and the game as a whole feels unpolished after ~6 months, especially the sounds.

Overall, I would say the release version felt a little bandwagon-y but had enough potential and was fun enough to be genuinely interesting. This new gameplay makes it clear this game was and is just a cash-grab for a FOTM game formula, like Artifact was, and likely whatever Valve tries to copy next will be the same.
