Ashes will not appeal to everybody. It knows what it wants to be, and who it's trying to appeal to - classic MMO fans - and i'm part of that target demographic. I came into alpha two not having played any of the earlier play tests, with my only exposure coming from a few dev blogs a few years ago.

The game is still a bit of a mess and it's nowhere near ready for release - but despite that, while playing when things are going right I "Feel the magic". I get lost in the adventure, the world building, the social interactions. My early impressions of combat, gathering, and crafting systems are VERY positive.

I'm having a blast but due to the queues, bugs, rubber banding, downtime, resets before launch, etc, I hesitate to reccomend it to others unless they know this is the exact type of game they're looking for.

Fantastic game for fans of fantasy, 5e, RPGs, or even just story heavy games in general. I haven't been lost in a game like I have been with BG3 in decades, the branching story is truly impressive and adds hundreds of hours of replay-ability. So refreshing to play a feature-complete game without micro transactions again. You will most likely experience a handful of minor bugs (none that I have experienced have been game breaking) but for a game at this scale, those are to be expected.

Great game to play with friends, if you have a consistent group to play with you certainly won't regret it. Perfect example of function over form, the game is obviously built from unity assets but it's so damn fun that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The menus are a glitchy mess but if you make it into a game, it's decent - a faithful recreation. Despite being obviously designed for touchscreens it's still very playable.

Started last week and I'm over 50h in game, so yes it's good! The game is free to play, do yourself a favor and give it a try.

Simply put, one of the best third person shooters available to date.
