Nothing like jumping on for a quick round of Conquest to calm down after a long day at work, just to get absolutley ragged on constantly. 11/10 would get exploded again. And again. And again.....

Right, lets kick this off with a caveat; to really get into DCS, you have to spend money, and this is a simulation more so than it is a game.

Whilst the base game is free to play, and the SU-25T is an amazing ground attack aircraft, it lacks the complexities of fully modeled aircraft which is where the game really shines. It is also vastly preferable to have a full HOTAS setup so you can map the required amount of controls, and either VR or Headtracking is also a vast improvement. YOU CAN STILL ENJOY THE GAME WITHOUT ALL OF THIS HOWEVER.

The best way to approach this is to treat the base DCS World product as an environment, and treat each aircraft module as a "game" that you purchase. You will have to dedicate time to learning how to fly each aircraft, dont expect to jump in and be flying around destroying stuff immediatly, this is not ace combat at all, however if you stick with it and learn your aircraft in baby steps, i can promise you it is rewarding.

The feeling of figuring out how to start a plane up to flight ready condition, your first taxi/takeoff, landing, and then weapon employment is so extremley satisfying that it is hard to describe. I have approximately 300 hours as of writing this, with most probably 160-180 of those hours logged in the F/A-18C hornet, and I am still learning about the plane as features are released and i get more competent with the aircraft.

The graphics are excellent compared to other flight sims, the flight model is incredible for most planes (And in planes such as Heatblurs F-14B Tomcat the flight model is simply superb!) and the soundtrack is fantastic. It does have some downsides, weapon splash damage is not accurate, you can put a 1000 pound bomb right next to a tank and it will still be functioning whereas in real life that tank would be at a very minimum severly damaged. There are also bugs that are introduced as features are released for various in development aircraft (more noticible if you play on the beta release schedule, which most serious players do)

There are included campaigns with the aircraft, but the sim really shines when you start flying with other people using custom built missions created in the included mission editor, or start using missions created by other users such as the fantastic Through The Inferno mission which has a variant for each map AFAIK.

If you want the sort of game where you jump in and are tearing up the skies after 10 minutes, avoid this, if however, you are interested in or are currently playing some sort of flight sim and you want to fly the most amazing recreations of real world combat aircraft and are prepared to learn how to use them, then this is absolutley the simulation for you!
