When Grief Became a Weapon
This is pretty much what I expected Mouthwashing to be. I'm not easily scared by games, but there was something about this one that genuinely had my heart pounding. It's honestly hard to explain what exactly made it so effective

The little gameplay mechanics, the art direction, level design, sound design โ€” all of it was insanely good for a game like this. I'd honestly put it among the best horror games I've played

The core idea is pretty simple ("there's something down there, you're doomed"), but the presentation and the protagonist's trauma really carry it. I also didn't expect all the angel and Christianity stuff. I was sure it was going to be the usual consciousness transfer, guilt, existential horror kind of story . Instead they basically threw everything in at once. It worked for the most part, but there were moments where it felt a bit overloaded.

What I didn't like is that I expected something closer to Voices of the Void, where the game spends a lot more time building tension and paranoia, making you constantly wonder if something is nearby. Here they show the creature pretty early, and after that it mostly becomes "run from the thing."

Also, for some reason the dad gets a pretty happy ending and ends up in some kind of heaven, which felt weird to me. And I was convinced there would be some choice at the end, like whether to free the angel or not. Felt like a missed opportunit

And honestly, the creature itself looks kinda goofy. But if it wasn't for the sounds and the chases, it wouldn't have worked nearly as well. Outlast had way scarier-looking enemies, yet this thing terrified me more. That's what good sound design does

Overall, if you're into horror games, especially psychological horror, you absolutely need to play this. It's honestly weird to me that it didn't blow up the way Mouthwashing did
