One tectonic plate bumped into another and said, “Sorry, my fault.”

Here's why it's funny a tectonic plate (also called lithospheric plate) is a massive, irregularly shaped slab of solid rock, generally composed of both continental and oceanic lithosphere. When a tectonic plate collides with another tectonic plate it ends up creating a crack (fault). How these tectonic plates move relative to each other determines the type of fault that exists at their junction point. There are three basic types of faults; normal, reverse and strike-slip. The junction where plates are moving away from each other produces a "normal" fault. A fault is a break in the rocks that make up the earth's crust, along which on either side rocks move pass eachother.
