8/10
The most technically beautiful UE5 game so far, fantastic art design with absolutely stellar environments and character models, with very Cronenberg-like enemies.
Gameplay is quite smooth, and a "Story" difficulty is offered if you, like me, don't enjoy the survival horror genre, which significantly eases up on enemy AI in stealth sequences. Controls feel crisp and the traversal punches above its weight class.
The story is just enough to move the plot along, with few strong emotional notes, and a satisfying conclusion.
For the price and size of the project, it feels more like a 9/10 - if you like cosmological horror, this is certainly worth your purchase, especially at the price it is offered.

You play as a homosexual semi-functional autistic savant detective who moonlights as a lawyer as you uncover the secrets behind various homicides with your mighty-morphin' pot head adopted little sister.

Some of the solutions really make you think outside the box to put the pieces together,, the writing is light and fun with lots of memorable characters.

The game scales perfectly to 4k resolution (and beyond?) at your choice of refresh rate.

Not much else to say. It's a point and click adventure VN with IQ tests scattered in. Good time over all. Ask the judge about CBT.

Early Access Review
Bar none, the best and most immersive detective game. Depth of simulation can be not-unreasonably compared to Dwarf Fortress. You can also just play as a murder hobo and commit breaking and entering until you can afford that penthouse suite.

Extremely unstable early access software. Absolutely unacceptable performance, impossibly pinning an RTX 4090 to 99% usage while only rendering the terrain plane on a new map.

Even at 4k, highest settings -- horribly unstable graphics, LOD on buildings, vehicles, and pedestrians can take almost a minute to pop in, faces of buildings will appear to be randomly culled even while the camera is stationary, shadows flicker constantly.

Placement of buildings is buggy, especially ones that require a drawn region of operation like farms and resource extraction, placement of roads over elevations is buggy, sometimes resulting in cliffs where cars fall straight down, or tunnels carving holes straight through the map.

Traffic, although improved over CS1, is still worse than TMPE, no option for disabled traffic despawning (which happens regularly) or in depth customization of intersections/turn lanes.

"In depth, next gen simulation" has wealthy employed cims sitting at home for multiple days straight, and children walking for over a day straight to pointlessly take a lap around the entire city while "returning home", all at around 25% CPU utilization on an i9 13th gen.

CO CTO publicly doubling down on performance, saying the 30 fps is fine as long as there's no hitching. Would be fine if those frames were due to game cycles chewing through CPU compute for robust simulation, not because the rendering loop is fundamentally flawed and the GPU is pinned while rendering empty terrain with unstable, buggy visuals.

We are in the era where real current gen titles offer full path traced UHD visuals with 4k textures and run at 40+ fps with no upscaling/frame generation. Either this game was disastrously rushed to release by PDX without an early access tag, or CO is genuinely satisfied with this as a release build and they seek to shovel this out to turn a profit on hype alone. Speculation, only time will tell.

As it stands I cannot reccomend this to anyone who is not willing to be an early access tester for this game. Perhaps check back in 6 months, hopefully there will be some reasonable improvements by then, but I also wouldn't hold my breath

Going on a year after release, still fatal errors thrown during gameplay and many animation bugs. Not sure what went so wrong with this otherwise excellent franchise, hopefully Supermassive can get it together moving forward.
