Been waiting for this for a long while, and AkaBaka cooked yet again. Absolute Peak, and Rhok'zi VA makes me so happy.

Got the game last night, wrote a mini review just before 2 hours to put up my thoughts before the 2hr mark of no return where I could no longer refund the game. I took the day to do a run through of the story to completion (Story not achievements that comes next). Anyways, I'd like to start off the review by saying that I've come to this game AFTER completing the parody romance Visual Novel Snoot Game, I love SG and find it impossible to get through this review without mentioning it since GVH is the reason that we have SG and as such I'll often be comparing and contrasting GVH with SG and IWHTG (another romance VN from the same developer, set in the same location as both SG and GVH). A lot of that community jokes on GVH about how terrible this is, and I assumed so too after seeing numerous reviews, memes, and just playing the masterful storytelling that SnootGame had to offer and for the most part my original thoughts for the first 2 hours remained mostly unchanged. I'll begin with everything I dislike about the game. Stella, Rosa, Sage, and Trish are still insufferable, however Trish became less so later on in the second half. The biggest let down to this game is that it is a choice driven narrative game with only one ending, and one that comes wayyy too quick. It took me 25 hours to complete IWHTG with its' 4 endings, and this I can complete in 9 hours total, only having to start a second run to get scenes I missed during L&L, that aside, with the right choices you can essentially complete this game in less time, getting every achievement but 2. There's many visual bugs, visible seams on almost every character, in one scene you could see the cutofff of Fang's model because it was too high from the bottom of the screen, in another scene Trish came into view and flashed between 2 different facial expressions in a single frame, and many examples of subtitles not lining up with what the VA is saying, in one scene it gave the sentence a different tone and meaning. Sound issues is smaller, mostly being audio line timings being off, the front or back end of the line being cutoff by .5s not massive but got annoying fast. Most of the characters feel very cardboard and one dimensional, the choices (or lack thereof sometimes) you make feeling like they have little to no impact, being there's only 1 ending there's no impact to your choices, picking options they like only give extra scenes for you as you fix up your relationship with your friends. The relationship system being another very annoying system I'll leave for elsewhere. It seems like I had a lot to gripe about with this game but, I still don't hate it enough to not recommend it. The music is fantastic, I loved every music segment, the theme is great, the inclusivity is great, the romantic side-plot was a nice touch, even though they ruined the mystery of it so fast, and Fang. Fang is wonderfully written as a character, I only wished that there were more choices for you to say, or that in certain places the option you picked better relate to what is actually said. This is nowhere a bad game like most people made it out to be, nowhere near as good as SnootGame and IWHTG but it's not bad by far. Would I recommend this game? Yeah, on sale, the price tag is a little high for what you get out of it. Would I recommend you play Snoot Game or I Wani Hug That Gator instead? If you're die hard in love with this game and came here for the lgbt inclusivity and just are apart of the "woke agenda" that the right wing (get it?) keep vomiting about, then, no. SG, while fantastic, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and at times soul crushing, was made by a bunch of 4chan /v/ideo game board NEETS. It makes jokes that make me cringe even though I used to be the same. If you're not faint of heart, can handle a few crude jokes at someone's expense, then go play SG, it's free, it's fantastic. IWHTG however, I recommend to anyone. The devs realized how good SG was, and improved upon their formula, still giving you a devastating and beautiful story, but making it more accessible to people who don't spend minimum 5 hours a day on 4chan. It made me into an emotional wreck for 2 whole days after working through all 4 endings.

TL;DR: Goodbye Volcano High has a myriad of minor visual and sound flaws, and suffers from 1 dimensional characters at times as they stick to a script instead of feeling like fluid characters. But it's redeemed by the music, Fang, the theme, art, inclusivity, romance, and Fang. Feelin a light 7.5-8/10 but I recommend going to play I Wani Hug That Gator instead (Snoot Game too if you can handle some crude 4chan humor)

It's hard to truly put into words how I feel about this VN. I've fully completed this and the preceding game from Cavemanon "Snoot Game" (It's free, go play it if you can force your way through some edgy 4chan humor) and I've noticed a definite divide between people who like IWHTG more or less than SG. Both are fantastic, great humor, great art, great writing (Though some of SG can be cringey if you're not a full time NEET), great art, soundtracks, etc etc. All around fantastic both ways, in their own regard. I discovered these games during a real rough spot I was in back in December and in a way SG and the demo for Wani helped me, so both are very significant to me. But. And there's a very big butt in Wani. I feel that IWHTG just knocks it out of the park, the writers really showed off their power levels here cause even 48 hours after doing everything in the game I find myself choking up and being brought back to tears like I was as the scenes played out. It could be anything from suddenly thinking about her smile, how the endings played out, or the sound track. I've never had a piece of media effect me this hard to where I still feel the same pain and happiness that I felt experiencing the story. Nothing has stuck with me this long, and this hard. Closest contender is Everything Everywhere All At Once, but that's only as the movie plays out. This game WRECKED me. I am the biggest mess I have ever been in a very long time. Maybe it's buried issues I didn't know about, maybe it's maybelline. But I have to tell you that there is not a single thing about this VN that I didn't like, save for the pain I had to feel to complete endings 1 and 2. When merch comes I'm buying it. If they decided to sell the soundtrack despite it being in the files, I'm buying it. I will give these anons so much money if it means more like this.

Do you like war crimes? Yes? Do you enjoy luring raiders into a maze, only to light a roaring fire at the end of a dark tunnel and cook them alive? Yes? Well let me tell you, if you enjoy a huge modding scene, and a base game that'll both push the limits to ethics, then you'll love this game. I've had 100+ hour colonies get wiped out because my story teller decided that committing genocide against tribes of (actual) feces eating fungi who hate humans isn't very kosher. So she sent a raid of 50 skaven to rain hell on my nuclear reactor and blow it all up. This game is great, I recommend it to all.

Played for the first time. Left me speechless. Wish I could have played the originals. Not that I won't. Every game will get its tur. 3 hours in. And I love every bit of it. Simply beautiful.
