This game will be very different from the others in the franchise, but I believe that's to its benefit rather than detriment. The story feels very reminiscent of original Silent Hill games, at least in the first few playthroughs. That said, it feels as though the story author wanted every detail spelled out for us, rather than leaving some parts up to interpretation. This feels like a downgrade to me as theorycrafting is part of the appeal of the series, but that is largely up to personal preference so I won't hold it too much against the game. As far as the combat goes, I actually view it as an improvement over the previous games. Having more varied options for combat was a genuinely nice change I appreciated (also a parry mechanic and stamina bar do NOT make this a souls-like, use your brain please.) All in all, I find this an excellent addition to the Silent Hill franchise and I appreciate the attempt to take it in a new direction. Having the games only ever be set in rural New England would have gotten very boring, very fast.

This is a largely faithful adaptation to the original material, in terms of story tone and character behavior as well as the lore documents you find. The combat can be a bit of a slog but that's never really been the strong point of this franchise. Admittedly, certain sections of the game seem to drag on for longer than necessary, but that is a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent re-imagining of a cornerstone of videogame horror media. It is absolutely worth your time if you have any love for the series. Congratulations to bloober team for knocking this (almost) entirely out of the park.

This game was an absolute joy to play. Without going into too much detail this is a beautiful story about two awkward teenagers trying to find their place in the world and the best way to communicate their feelings. I laughed, I cried, I got stuck on puzzle and asked the dev for help (it wasn't hard I was just dumb lmao, thank you!) If you have any interest in visual novels definitely give this one a play, you won't regret it!

Gunplay is good but for the love of your sanity, just turn on subtitles for missions and turn dialogue volume alllllll the way down, otherwise you're gonna feel like Randy Pitchford is standing next to you and breathing into you ear with a pace that makes you think he's visiting Magic Kingdom again.

Dungeon Crawler is very accurate, it's a fun game but genuinely upgrade your speed first unless you wanna move like a slime made of molasses
