I've been waiting to finish the game to write a review, but honestly my patience has reached it's limit.
This game is pretty terrible. Nearly everything is wrong with it:
1. First Trails game to ever start crashing for me, and it crashes a lot.
2. The writing is terrible, character development is non-existent, pretty much all characters got worse since Daybreak
3. Side quests are terrible, boring at best and vexing at most.
4. Extremely politically charged. There's encouragement and promotion of illegal immigration, expect every single Central Eastern person to be amazing or a victim whereas white people are bad.
5. If you've heard that Van and Rean's routes are great, that's right, but the game doesn't let you play as them freely. Past the first time you're able to choose, they only let you do Van + another route, either Rean or Kevin. And after that, you'll have more than one time when you can only choose Van, for no reason. Also Van has the most routes and the most playtime. Why even have different routes at this point?
6. Van's route sucks. Extremely boring most of the time, offensive and obnoxious in many other instances.
7. Music has gotten pretty bad. It improved a lot in the later section, but for 20+ hours of the first act, you're going to have to suffer very bad compositions.
8. Side dialogs are almost all the same and offer no variety. Everyone's like the main protagonist. Everyone loves everything, sometimes they worry, and they never hate anything.
9. Many, many instances in Van's route where most of your party is locked because the game wants you to not miss character-unique dialogs. A lot of them are pro forma, like Feri talking about Central Eastern people. You can't not care about that.
10. Van dropped the ball and became the kindest protagonist of all Trails outright.


I finished the game. I can't stand it. I don't think I'll be able to write a more comprehensive review anytime soon, but if I do, not much of it is gonna be good. I think this is the worst game in the series.

Robocop is needed irl

Great game. I am only in Chapter 1, but I like it much better than the original.
Don't worry about the Russian reviewbombing affecting total score. Over time, the market will sort itself out and we'll return to 99%.

Deliberated buying this for the longest time, bought it and it had been a swim sale for about 80 hours until you encounter an eight-stage (!) battle with a time limit, 2-turns limit that I almost won 5 times only to be screwed up by RNG.

The game doesn't shy away from wasting your time, if you value it, steer clear from it.

Add the savegame option for missions.

Improved my opinion of dogs

1. Hold this here point
2. Stop 12 convoys (like they'd send 10 if 6 have already failed)
3. Help your allies attack a position while they're defending and divert troops and waste precious ammunition on this undertaking, watch them die miserable deaths
4. Do all this for your useless allies
5. Who complain about each other and constantly switch sides to join you (understandably)
6. While you're at it, save some guy or a couple of them who are very far away
7. Take another position for a couple of other people
8. All this happens simultaneously in very short sequence
9. Pretend that this is war
10. Interface is bad
11. Way points are even worse

Honestly I never expected Slitherine to be this incompetent.

Don't buy this, this is too much micromanagement. Even the story is stupid, because it begins with the protagonist violating orders for his feelings, getting many other people killed, and then being saved by repercussions by the plot (cut off from his superiors so they can't reprimand him), so he now acts on his own and is free to do other dumb actions.

Not good if you're running a modern PC.
1. You have to tinker with your computer to even get the menu to work
2. The game constantly crashes
3. You have to waste time on solutions to that effect and it's not really worth the time
4. The text is too small and that's bad for the eyes
5. The gameplay is not all that stellar. The original Europe at War was more interesting for me than this.

What was a serviceable game once now became a spyware. Thanks, but no thanks.

The DLC and its associated update broke the f u ck i n g game and my build, it's unplayable. Strongly don't recommend this
