"Jazz, jawlines, and just the right amount of jabs."

“To Hell With The Ugly” is a rare noir gem that blends razor-sharp dialogue, old-school detective charm, and a narrative bursting with personality; all wrapped in a uniquely stylish 1950s aesthetic. If you're into point-and-click adventures with a little extra bite, this game delivers.

From the get-go, you're tossed into a world of neon clubs, back-alley brawls, and conspiracies stranger than fiction. The combat system - an unusual turn-based, rhythm-timing mechanic - is surprisingly satisfying once you get into the groove. It’s not just clicking through puzzles; it’s about staying alert, paying attention, and sometimes punching your way to the truth.

🕵️ What I Loved:
Smart, stylish writing; snappy, witty, and often hilarious.
Gorgeous art direction; a visual love letter to post-war L.A. noir.
Balanced puzzles; nothing too obscure, but satisfying to solve.
Memorable characters; especially Rock’s reluctant charm and his interactions with Cora, Mary, and the rest.
Achievement design; every unlock felt meaningful, with several tied to story branches or subtle actions that made exploration rewarding.

👟 What to Know:
QTEs (like the car chase) can be punishing but replayable.
You’ll want to use multiple save files if going for 100%, as several achievements (like Collector and Humble Gift) are missable.
Some jokes and plot beats lean into vintage pulp; enjoy it as satire.

Finished in just over 9 hours with all achievements, and I still find myself thinking about the soundtrack and the setting. Definitely a one-of-a-kind narrative experience, and a standout for fans of Rusty Lake, noir, or just clever interactive fiction.

A suave, subversive detective tale that punches above its weight.
10/10 – Stay ugly, Rock.
