They've pretty faithfully recreated the mobile game ads, but the fact remains that the games just aren't that fun or engaging for more than a few minutes

One of the best designed killers (on both sides) they've made in years.

Right now, I wouldn't buy this for even $5, it feels like a beta for a tech demo. There's no progression (other than unlocking the next level after you complete the previous one), so it gets repetitive and boring extremely quickly. It's *very* buggy and several mechanics only sort of work and break constantly. The melee system never works, and any melee weapon feels awful to use and doesn't hurt the enemies.

What's even more annoying is the complete lack of dev communication. They'll drop in every 7-9 months and say they're working on the game and have something out soon, but as of writing they haven't put out an update in 699 days (and that was a hotfix patch for the experimental branch).

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Edit for the Gore + AI update 7/28/2024:
Is the AI and Gore better? Yes, it looks great, and the AI works fine. Does it show potential? Sure, some. Is it worth the price now? Nope. Still feels like an alpha. And yes, the devs just dropped an update, but that doesn't suddenly absolve them from nearly two years of a lack of updates. Especially if that update is only on the experimental branch, especially if that update removes several features just to get it working (yes, I totally get why they'd have to remove features to push it out, and that's okay, but the point stands), and especially if they're still charging $25 for it. There's currently no reason to buy this. If you want a good gory VR game, go buy Blade and Sorcery and then mod it to be as gory as you want.

What a neat little horror game. It does this genre better than almost any other game I've seen.

It's a super cool game, great foundation and really cool mechanics. If there's something you think you can do with time travel mechanics, you can probably do it, it's incredible. They've also got workshop mods, which is always great.

However, since it's in alpha, there's not a whole lot to do other than the story and a couple side quests, and it can be a bit buggy here and there. Plus, the story can be such a slog to get through at points with the dialogue being somewhat poorly written (though I assume there's just a language barrier, so that's fine) and some of the writing in general - especially in act II when the dev randomly starts trying to shoehorn religion into everything for no apparent reason, like the main scientist character suddenly changing his ideals (which has no impact on the story, they just put it in there to put it in there), and putting in bible references for no reason. I'm hoping he stops trying to shoehorn it in and just focus on making a good story in future acts (though from reading other reviews from people farther into the game than me, it seems like it only gets worse). I really, really want to like this game, and several of the time travel mechanics are super well done and are really cool, but *man* I just can't bear another second of the story.

It's got potential, but with what I've seen so far, I don't think it's going to meet it. Playing it with friends for a few hours was the most fun I got out of it.

Played when it first came out. It felt pretty shallow, but it seems like they're updating it so maybe that changed.

Pre-release has been a little rough around the edges, but the gameplay itself is super fun and a lot of the roster is super interesting and fun to play, but *man* the stuttering screws me up a lot. I'm sure it'll get patched out soon though.

Overall, super fun game, super fun roster, some very minor bugs and issues during pre-release that I'm sure will get fixed soon enough.

Edit: After an additional 200 hundred hours, the game is still super fun. Each DLC character is super well designed and interesting, and the roster is a ton of fun to play. It still lacks content, but this has to be one of the best MK games I've played yet gameplay-wise, and that's including MKX. You can be so creative with your combos, and every idea I have just works, it's so much fun. The kameos are great, just ignore the people who whine about them. If you don't want to play with them, just don't press the button.
