Pretty fun, to be honest. Way better than when I played it on the Xbox a couple of years back. The only problem I have with the game is that it sometimes just crashes my entire PC. Blue screens, screen freezes, and the (not so) occasional bugged NPC or quest. But on the gameplay side? A banger with friends or solo. Not even that grindy.

I've only played a couple of hours, not even a full playthrough (yet). I got into ACT I and got rebelled on just a couple of days before sunrise and before I could leave. But I had so much fun getting to that point—I don't think I'll be able to put the game down for the next couple of weeks.

The game is difficult enough (at least from what I’ve played—the hardest difficulty) that if you actually plan out what you want to do, you can pull it off in a reasonably efficient manner. The story is great (so far—again, I haven't finished the game yet), and I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the little descriptions of life events for each of my alters. I don’t think any other game has ever gotten me to read its written lore like this. The socializing with the alters and their little quips are great (based Technician btw).

There were a couple of bugs I encountered—like Jan spawning on top of the beer pong table after finishing a game, the little mood bubbles not disappearing or not disappearing quickly enough, and a few other pretty insignificant ones.

Overall, I am and will be enjoying my time in this game for the next couple of weeks (at least), and I'm already excited for the DLC coming out next year.

I like the game but I hate China. Feel free to add me, my name is IHateChinaBill. If you ever see me saying: "Now, Say my name." Then please say my name.

Edit (1/13/2025): You can now add me under the name "ShadyHatesCCP." "IHateChinaBill" has since been executed.

Edit (8/10/2025): I have come back to test the game out again. I believe its going to give me chinese AIDS. Please send help if it does.

Conclusion: The game is still bad

Frostpunk 2 is unlike its predecessor. It is still what you would expect from Frostpunk—the people are still freezing their asses off, and the extremely immoral choices are still there—but it is on a much greater scale than just the crater you had in the original game. Expanding past the crater and colonizing the frostland was probably the only way the game could have evolved, so it makes sense that everything is much bigger.

I like that you now build districts rather than individual buildings because it really gives me the feeling that we’ve survived and now it’s time to conquer the land beyond the walls of the crater. I also like the way you can zoom around the entire map of the frostland (sort of). The implementation of the colonies (Winterhome, The Old Dreadnaught) is great—you can actually build in them, which makes them feel very important—though I wish there were more locations to build in rather than just these two.

I have yet to play Utopia Mode since I’ve been having a lot of fun with the campaign, but from what I’ve played, the game feels like a great successor and not just a copy-and-paste version of the previous game with a fresh coat of paint. I also like the division into individual chapters—the bold letters on each chapter’s title card look ultra cool.

Overall, the game feels like an ultra-solid follow-up to the previous game and is exactly what I imagined when I first heard it was in development.

Probably the best DLC for Payday 3 so far. The heist is a blast. The weapons are good and the outfits look sick.
