This game is like those motorcycle flash games where you have to balance yourself, but set in a grimdark post-apocalyptic world with a heavy focus on story.

Upsides-
>Well, the story.
>The artstyle is consistently gorgeous.
>The music fits perfectly, and the ability to change tracks on command helps prevent certain tracks from getting repetitive.
>The gunplay and gameplay both feel smooth and fluid. It's very nice to pick up and play.
>The atmosphere is on point, as you'd hope for with a game like this.
>The sidequests actually feel meaningful, I wanted to finish them all.

Downsides-
>The lack of any teleport or "Return to last used shrine" Item or ability is a huge downside in a game like this. It can make sidequests feel very tedious, just going back and forth through the same areas tens of times.
>For how difficult some of the enemy setups are, the bosses are just a joke. The chase sequence ones are fine enough, but for any boss with a healthbar, there's nothing stopping you from spinning in circles and mag dumping them.

All in all a very compelling game that I think will stick with me. If you like story games definitely give this one a shot.

Alright, it's been a year since this hunk of poop ♥♥♥♥ dropped and broke ror2, and now that I'm playing again, I figure I'd share my thoughts on SOTS.

It's not very good.

> The items added originally had no practical effects. Some of them feel good to use now, while others bring definition to the term "Power Creep".
> The enemies added were originally broken, and still are. Scorch wurms fire at you without looking and have long periods of invincibility, Children shoot near silent projectiles that deal most of your health in damage and home in on you with disgusting accuracy (If you get hit by a blazing or overloading child, basically just say goodbye to your run.) The new final boss is just broken, you can get targeted by a laser that perfectly tracks you, the False Son himself, who is absurdly tanky and does too much damage, a myriad of golems with their iconic ♥♥♥♥ hell laser, and if you go to aurelionite beforehand, the spikes that come up from the floor, all at once. It's just a bastard ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of half working ♥♥♥♥ thrown in. And the stage leading up to false son is just as bad, with bosses spawning all over the place, and four or so large chests incentivize you to stop climbing and grind for them.
> The Characters are... Fine.
Completely Broken, mind you, but Fine. HORRIBLY powercrept though, you can't die with seeker unless you take your one hand off the keyboard. False son is the best scaling character in the game, I kind of wish he wasn't so busted because he's actually pretty interesting, and makes use of items other characters normally throw away. Chef is the closest to balanced, but even then he has the Infamous Execute in his kit, turning mithrix and tanky minibosses into a joke. Pretty fun though, I think they translated his kit well.
> The stages range from "Fine" to "Why did they design this stage to throw every item into the abyss, that's really weird man".

Overall, just kind of a disappointment. Don't bother buying this, one of your friends might already own it, and if they don't, you aren't missing much. If you like mouth drooling power fantasies, this is the DLC for you, but otherwise, just get Survivors of the Void.

I have 60 vigor and heavy aaa armor and multiple HP up talismans and I still get 2 shot. This isn't even a skill up moment, it's just obnoxious
