This game has easily the best gunplay in the franchise

The issue is that you spend more time standing listening to the unskipable unnecessarily long vomit-inducing beyond terrible dialogue than shooting

This game is pretty much a DLC for TTWW 2 and 3, it shouldn't cost as much as them

I have a hard time calling this a game, it feels like a blatant cash grab, this will be a long review/rant

TLDR: great art, great soundtrack, boring grind, repetitive combat without variety, progression tied to loot boxes and abusive pricings, bring back Dofus Arena

The game was on development for years with some occasional open betas and it barely has improved since then. It released early access missing some classes with barely any new content just to make money as I will explain ahead.

The art and soundtrack are easily the best parts of the game, there's a reason why people joke saying Ankama is a company of artist that sometimes make games

The problem is with everything else, the combat while it can be somewhat fun, gets stale real quick and the game isn't complex enough to have a combat on the same level as Dofus/Wakfu since it's mainly stat checking with barely any strategy, hell, all the maps are the same size

The most interesting thing in the game is the buildcrafting, however progression is tied to rng, you get equipment and spells by opening ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOOT BOXES, and you need duplicates in order to level both your equipment and spells. This can lead to situations where you'll be stuck with low lvl equipment because rngesus didn't bless you. Do you want to make an specific build? Sucks to be you, here's more useless spells and companions you'll never use.

Also the grind is tedious, and this is coming from someone who has over 2000 hours in Warframe, leveling up is tedious and it feels like it takes forever, and it's even worse when you want to lvl up new classes, some challenges are obnoxious and you don't get bonus xp if you have a higher level character

Because of the stat check nature of the combat, if you aren't strong enough to clear a higher dificulty, it means you'll be stuck repeating the same fights over and over again, but to make it worse, you'll be doing the exact same moves most of the time because the game combat is as bare bones as it gets

Summarizing the combat: your character has one movement, which he can use to move, attack or move and attack (you can't attack and then move), and you gain 6 AP/Mana to cast spells every turn, but most of the spell effects are "deal damage", some spells apply a elemental debuff and some spells consume the debuff to have an extra effect, and you can summon some sidekicks that get one shotted 90% of the time.

Credit where it's due, enemies have different mechanics which is cool, even though some mechanics are really unfun and classes have different mechanics

Speaking on sidekicks, they are just meat shields that require a lot of investment to last more than 2 turns, and you also need duplicates to level them. Have fun opening all your companion chests to get only useless sidekicks that you never use while the ones in your build stay low level

You also need runes in order to unlock some effects on your spells, equipment and sidekicks, but most of what you'll get will be from the first time completion rewards (which is per account, not character), this isn't a big issue for spells and equipment, but companions need this investment in order to go from useless, to barely usable.

And considering how boring it is to gather resources, it feels like the game punishes you for wanting to try another character or to experiment another build. Getting runes after the first clear rewards is so slooow, and also you don't get bonus XP when leveling new characters like in Dofus and Wakfu.

Now, the reason I call this a blatant cash grab is because everything in the cash store is way too expensive compared to how much it's worth, the price of a single skin in Waven (1200 = R$62,90 ~ $ 11 USD) I could buy 3 months of premium access on Dofus (R$49,99) which is a far better game. To make matters worse, when you buy a skin for a character you only get the skin for the gender you bought instead of unlocking both. It's also on early access yet it has a fully functional cash shop and founders packs with princing of triple A games while not even having a proper campaign.

They also use abusive practices in order to convince you to spend more, you can claim a daily gift by opening the cash shop, most of the rewards aren't very worth it but it's just a strategy to make you open the shop and see all the DAILY DEALS, LIMITED TIME BUNDLES, MEGA OFFERS, etc. Ankama please, you can do better

And speaking on Ankama, I really wanted to support them but it's not worth it, they don't care about players who aren't french and they make some unreasonable changes without explanation. Hope you enjoy seeing the build you spent a long time grinding get nerfed to the ground for no reason

This krosmic mode was also a huge spit on the face of the playerbase, you spend hours playing on a new server just to be asked to pay to get your progress transfered to the main one, and according to some people you don't even get the character slot so it's an extra cost

If I could summarize Waven in a single word it would be disappointment, it saddens me to see such a great art being wasted on this cashgrab

Editting because I want to rant more and I missed some details

There's a golden rule in life which everything is fun with friends. This rule doesn't apply to Waven, when playing with other ppl, the game will spawn a super buffed enemy that punishes you for playing the multiplayer aspect of the game.

There's also a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ overpriced battlespass.

I feel like this game was doomed since the start, it's like the devs know it's a mediocre game but kept making it to get easy money with low effort, and considering Ankama's track with releasing and killing games (rip Dofus Arena, Dofus Pets, Krosmaster), the only reason Waven will last is because people are expending money on it. This is the kind of game you put on your second monitor while you watch something interesting.

Mute the dialogue to make the campaign bearable

I consider a mixed review this one

On one hand the hats and the costumes are pretty good
On the other, the weapons skins are recolors with barely any changes on the model

I bought mainly to support the devs because I believe they deserve it
