I really wanted to enjoy this. I loved the game way back when it was new. But the massive nostalgia can not make up for the games age.

Diplomacy is nonsense. You can be attacked by someone and then when you react in defense, all your neighbors' relations crater because they are friendly.

Difficulty is broken. The AI will literally not make armies to do things with on Normal. You have to play on hard or higher, and that means the AI cheats to have troops. Also the AI doesn't know how to make armies. From the beginning of the game you'll be facing swarms of weaker armies and its not interesting at all.

Battles become tedious. Given how often you have to do battles the set up screen becomes awful to see. You have to set up the layout of your army over and over and over. If only you could save the set up, that alone would be an amazing improvement.

The city development and management is satisfying but as it is, I don't want to play late enough into the game to see how things end up.

I can not recommend this game.

ARPG, Boss fight game. Its great in small groups and has a ton of content. I recommend playing on Brutal difficulty if you can.

Its my favourite game. I love the progression. The world is beautiful. And playing in a small group is deeply satisfying. Its the pinnacle of survival-crafting games.

Edit: Try out a hardcore, no map no portal world. It will change the experience.

Its a deeply satisfying management game that explodes with possibilities due to its excellent mod community.
You want various story themes? Got it.
You want many aesthetic choices? Got it.
You want violence? Got it.
You want peaceful development? Got it.
You want to have a child soldier army that you can replace via cloning vats? Got it.

Highly cute. Highly fun. Difficulty is highly customizable so you can GET GUD, or you can relax and make silly massive projects. Both are fun.

Well, I love this game. Despite what i guess has been a lot of unpleasant time spent with it. At least for me, the game has been incredibly lonely. I haven't had the opportunity to play with friends at all in 200 hours. And its rare to meet a stranger and have it go well. The amount of kill on sight interactions that happen even at low gear and in starter situations is upsettingly high.

Played on a free weekend. I honestly really enjoyed it but its a fairly shallow game play loop and i dont think i will buy the game unless i see it on a sale again. But its a series im very interested in now. If the third game takes feed back and improves, it could be something special.

I tried to refund this but you cant after two hours of play apparently.

Everything about this game is frustrating. I cant believe it was ever play tested.

Dont buy this game.

Too early in development. Only buy this now if youre interested in having loose control over a resource management sim with little pay off or context.

This is a great role playing game. Probably one of the best ever. While it lacks in the strategy element, its emergent story telling is top shelf. The memes about incest and child murder might not be for everyone, but even if thats not your style there is much to find here of worth.

Also, CK3 one small expansion after launch already rivals CK2 at the end of its development. Bravo Paradox.
