This game is the modern X-COM formula, perfected.

It's X-Com, but 40k, and does exactly what you would want from that. Somewhat flips the script in that you are nowhere near as fragile, even in the early stages, which makes a nice change.

It also has some nice QoL improvements over Firaxis X-Com, like refreshing all your squad's actions when contact is made with the enemy, and replenishing both actions and reloading ammo automatically when you leave combat.

It's a passable adaptation of the board game, when it works, but: it doesn't work. Finnicky rules mistakes would be forgivable, but...

It's quite common for the game to enter a broken state, leaving players unable to take an action while their timers ticks down, and eventually they get kicked from the game. It's quite common for the AI to bug out and the game to softlock completely. Both of these can happen near the end of the game, meaning it's all been a huge waste of everyone's time.

Today I couldn't even start an on-line game, as attempting to log into my Asmodee account produced a nonsensical error.

This game isn't in a state fit to be released, and I'm not convinced it ever was or ever will be.

It currently has a serious enough bug that you shouldn't get it.

Blank screen crashes in the middle of a dungeon, paired with an aggressive limitation on saves, is an unhappy combination. You never know if the next fight is going to crash your game, and key mechanics include an endurance-based approach to dungeons and strict day-based time limits on getting things done.

Don't touch this until the crash bugs are patched.

It's a pretty basic implementation of the game. I can't speak about online play, but playing with bots is frustrating because they are so bad that your neighbours end up gimping the castles you are trying to build with them. You can try and make the AI think again, but it will always put the tile back in its preferred (bad) location. It will even pick terrible choices for bonus cards and heralds.
