Know what you're getting into:

The gameplay itself is pretty solid but as others mentioned, progression is pretty terrible, the customer support is even worse.

As a free game it was worth giving a shot in my opnion.

First, I'll elaborate on progression:

The Global Devs implemented a different system for gaining the currency to purchase characters that they claim provides equal currency gain to the original game (You gain currency through level up exclusively).

After 3 hours I was able to unlock a character, after 8 hours I was able to unlock a second, after an additional 29 hours, I have not obtained enough currency to unlock a third (Halfway there). This is because the exp to level up doubles itself with each level up. (If it's 100exp to lv2 it's 200exp to lv3, 400exp to lv4 and so on)

The progression only gets more difficult as time goes on since EXP gain is roughly the same per match unless you get MVP or SVP and obviously Win or Lose, but the

They game treats the free currency to unlock characters as if it were premium currency, it's all they give out and in pitiful amounts.

That being said, the base characters are fun and good enough that you can enjoy the game even over all.

Now, the customer support:

Currently there is an ongoing issue with the game where you may not be able to connect and log in for days at a time. Emailing their customer support gets you an automated response telling you to log into the game and submit a ticket from within (Obviously if my issue is logging in, then I can't do that). On their discord, they are actively ignoring these requests, but the community has found that sometimes spamming 'retry' on the log in screen or using a VPN fixes the issue.

Another issue is that their automated ban systems that don't review/confirm reports and the devs trying to implement a region lock to prevent VPN use, only to accidentally soft ban legitimate players.

None of these issues, which have been reported for weeks now have been addressed by the seemingly very active, (in both Discord and Reddit), Strinova team.

Finally, the gameplay:
You have 4 game modes and 1 ranked mode:
7v7 Team Arena (This is Halo's Big Team Battle, here you can't use character abilities.)

5v5 Domination (This is CS:GO Competitive with the added twist of characters buying ability upgrades each round instead of weapons and having access to Overwatch style abilities. It's also the only ranked game mode right now.)

5v5 Escort (This is the standard push the payload Overwatch style game with the added twist of buying ability upgrades.)

3v3 Team Deathmatch (This pits 5 teams of 3 against each other with character abilities.)

Over all, each mode is fun and gameplay feels balanced enough. I've enjoyed my 34 hours so far minus the time where I couldn't log in because of network issues. As long as you know what you are getting into, I don't think that there is a good argument against at least trying the game if you are interested in it, outside of not wanting to support the devs, that being said, they do seem active, just not actively addressing the connectivity issues which could be because they don't have a solution to it yet.

When this game was originally announced, most Mega Man X fans were appalled by the gacha mechanics, stamina, and ammo. A live service Mega Man game was the last thing anyone wanted. However, the devs show how much they really loved the original Mega Man series not only through the story, (which is a call back to the obscure story of the Mega Man X gameboy color games), but in the way they handled the end of service for the game.

While it is not perfect (Resource drops were modified to help progression, but are still low enough to require a lot of grinding) they put a lot of effort into making sure that you could experience nearly all of the game. With the only things missing being the PVP and licensed cross over events.

The community has put together several mods to assist with the very few areas this game falls short (like excessive grinding) or custom things like giving the different X armors accurate busters.

The only two issues with this game that I have would be the mapping and the slow progression without mods, the story is fun and doesn't take itself too seriously while offering plenty of call backs to the X series, gameplay is fun and works very well with the exception of sometimes accidentally dashing if you tap the thumbstick twice and the control of your manual aiming (Only really needed for the armor material grind) being locked to the right thumbstick so it's hard to aim, move, and fire.

Overall, if you're a big fan of Mega Man X, this game is a fun addition to the collection where the new characters take the place of the devs and nerd out with you as you 'relive' different parts of the Mega Man franchise.

Back around 2014-2015 Square Enix announced they would be porting Final Fantasy games to Steam, starting with games like Type-0 (Another PSP game) and if they did well, they would continue to port and possibly remaster older games.

Crisis Core Reunion makes good on that promise in a lot of ways. For me, it’s one of my top 3 favorite Final Fantasy games, I kept my PSP alive just to play it over and over again (Even if it begged me to put it out of is misery).

This game has been almost completely preserved with upgrades that mostly complement it, but go into it understand that it is very much the original PSP game with graphical and audio updates. This is not a Final Fantasy VII Remake rebuild from the ground up.

That being said, it goes on sale for 50% off consistently and I’d recommend waiting as PSP games do suffer from several things that make $50 hard to swallow:

The dungeons in the game are repetitive and the encounters can become tedious. However, if you hug the walls will let you skip most if not all encounters. They serve as bonus content for the game if you’re really into completion and give additional story and context to background things from the other media like the main game and movie. These are intended for you to get so broken you one-shot enemies in them, as enemies will be one-shotting you quickly as well.

The story has pacing issues, it’s difficult to tell the passage of time throughout and being given exclusively Zack’s point of view makes it very difficult to see where everything is going as Zack himself remains in the dark about many things through the entire story even in the end, but I like the way it’s handled and it’s still one of my favorite FF stories.

The worst thing about this version is that Square Enix replaced the entire voice cast with the actors from Final Fantasy VII Remake. Specifically, their voice for Zack is jarringly worse in the beginning of the game. But I would say within the first 2 or 3 chapters there is noticeable improvement (Though still not as good as the original) and it becomes something that is passable. I’m also more open to this change because I remember a while ago that Sony used to somehow obtain the legal rights to game audio in order to forcefully keep games as exclusives.

I'm biased, when Square Enix hinted that they might bring this game to Steam back in 2014-2015 I just handed them my credit card and told them to keep ringing it up until they said enough. The ONLY complaint I have, is that like others, I would prefer DLC or something that lets me switch to the old audio/voice actors, even if I have to give up the fully voiced game when doing it.

Is it a fun game? For sure.
Is the player base active and fun? I would say 90% of the time yes.
Graphics are good enough, in game bugs have become minimal, and new content is earn-able without micro-transactions and doesn't impact gameplay too greatly.

Over all, this is probably the best live service game that we will see for a very long time.

After a year, I can finally recommend this game again as Sony has FINALLY reversed their absurd decision to de-list the game in any region that doesn't have PSN after promising that PSN would not be a requirement for the game. Keep in mind, when Sony de-listed the game, those regions woke up one day unable to play their game and unable to get a refund. That's not a reflection of the Helldiver devs, who were just as outraged by this, but of Sony as a company.

Its a over all good game, but the repeated cutscenes get very old and skipping them doesn't mitigate this when you're having to skip 2 per chaos emerald per zone and 1 for every story unlock as Sonic slowly pours tokens into the 'memories' to unlock them.

There are three things that made me not enjoy this game as much as I could.

1. There are dozens of instances of the game's tutorials not actually explaining how to do things. An example would be the tip/tutorial for using Super Sonic says something along the lines: Sonic controls differently in super mode, use these new controls to win. That's cool, but what are the control differences? This happens a lot throughout the game mainly when the game tries to give you hints on how to beat enemies that aren't very well telegraphed.

2. Mini games in the story are not fun. From the 'Koko round up' to the 'hacking bullet hell' they are all put together in a way that feels like time wasn't take to make sure they were enjoyable to play. One of the final minigames is a bullet hell that places enemies where you can only destroy them by smashing into them and losing lives.

3. Pop in from bad rendering distances. You only render things that are 15ft or so in front of sonic, making it difficult to find things if you aren't right on top of them already. This is 15ft or so in every direction. There is no option to increase the render distance and you can mod it, but this annoying 'catch the shooting stars' mini game spawns so many items that your game will crash every time until you uninstall it. The pop in alone was annoying enough just because there are so many things you will miss that I considered using the fishing minigame to unlock everything.

By the final zone because of these three things, I had given up on progressing/unlocking properly and just maxed the fishing so I could instant unlock everything and beat the game because it was starting to feel more like a chore than anything else for me. At the same time, I can see how this game is perfect for die hard sonic fans, kids, and people who just aren't super picky like me, if none of the three things I've pointed out will discourage you, this is easily worth it's sale price of $42

Some of the mechanics of the game are a little ambiguous early on and the over all story is an extremely bland rip off of I am Legend. The gameplay itself is pretty standard, with nothing particularly cutting edge here.

However, the voice actors do an outstanding job of pushing the characters and their relationships into the spotlight. I found myself caring more about the side quests then the main story because it was genuinely interesting to see where the main character's relationships would develop or break apart with the different people he meets and how they all realistically struggle with him taking out his rage and grief on anything/anyone he deems non-human.

I think that if the game had been marketed as anything but a generic zombie survival game when it first released on playstation it would have done significantly better because the characters and actors themselves will draw you in even if the story and gameplay are extremely basic and not very interesting.

There is enough content to keep you going for a while without getting bored, though the third act of the game does begin to drag a little bit.

So, story and gameplay are amazing.

You get 1/4th of the gadgets that you had in Marvel's Spider-Man, but Miles' combat is so unique and fun that you barely notice it. The game does a really good job of rewarding you for completing the side missions by letting you unlock almost everything far before the final fight. The story is intense and takes a lot of queues from Into the Spider-verse and it does so really well while still being extremely unique and entertaining. The only issue I had was that there are many abilities and a suit locked behind New Game+, but it's not a deal breaker at all and as the ONLY complaint it's a minor one.

Now about the port itself. There are a few bugs, but considering this was only just released I was willing to over look them.
Issues I had:
-Alt+Tabbing causing the game to no longer respond to button or keyboard inputs.
-Using fast travel causing the game to no longer respond to button or keyboard inputs.
-Sometimes, like Marvel's Spider-Man pressing two buttons together doesn't always register correctly.
-On the final set of cutscenes Miles' entire body just went MIA, the only part of him that was rendered was the red chest and back spiders, and his mask which kind of ruined a very emotional scene for me.

How do I feel about the game over all?
As soon as I finished it I went to see if Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was up for pre-order on steam or if it had a release date yet. (Unfortunately not)

This port is nearly perfect, 64 hours and the only issue I had was occasionally the game didn't register abilities that required 2 buttons pressed at the same time but devs have been putting patches in to try and correct this, most of the time just reloading the game does it.

Story is unique with still honoring the traditional Spider-Man lore and the mix between gadgets and combat abilities is fun enough to keep combat very entertaining. The DLCs had WAY more content that I ever expected and every part of it was extremely fun.

The only thing I didn't like was the task master story line. The challenges were okay, the main issue is that for what it was, the payoff at the end was lack luster compared to all of the other side stories.

The port and game are both good enough that I bought Miles Morales as soon as I finished Marvel's Spider-Man.

I want to like this game but there are a few things that just ruin my ability to play it.

First there is the performance issues:
Constant stuttering, hair textures turn into this strange static that looks like some connect the dots thing, and following a loading screen the game will usually load me in, then cycle the load screen a second time for a few minutes before ACTUALLY loading me in.

Then there is the gameplay issues:
Each character seems to be limited to 3-4 light and 3-4 heavy attack animations and 1-2 dodge animations. They are very award and make combat extremely boring. The best example of this is Red Hood. His dodge is a forward slide that triggers even on a side dodge. This makes him do the COD style slide forward motion while physically sliding left or right. Batcycle controls are super loose and not fun to play with, kinda feels similar to driving a car in GTA4

Finally we have the character's/Story issues:
This game doesn't seem to carry any of the love or attention to detail that the Arkham series had. I am aware this is not an Arkham game, but it is obvious where they attempted poorly to draw from Arkham to create this game. The characters have personalities that seem more rooted in the TMNT characters than the actual comic book characters. Their personalities don't match like they should. They have Tim Drake being more of the jokester than Nightwing, who is overly serious and Red Hood being the big dumb muscle oaf. The game tries to add crime scene puzzles like Arkham but it fails because they just offer several puzzles of which most are duds with no real instructions instead of true puzzles.

This game reminds me of the Dice SW: Battlefront. Everyone wanted Battlefield 4 with a star wars skin. Instead we got a rough attempt to bring the original Battlefront games to the modern era. Everyone wanted Gotham Knights to have Arkham gameplay, instead we got a rough attempt to make the Avengers game with Arkham elements.

Time for this game to GTFO my HDD. In a word it's boring. The maps aren't interesting, things you can interact with are severely limited, everything is slowed by 'hold to interact' mechanics for the most menial of tasks, including dropping things you carry that prevent you from attacking but are required to progress. It's a neat idea, but it takes so long to get into that it's just not fun.
