Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 – A Masterpiece of Storytelling and World-Building

Introduction
Before diving into my thoughts on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, I need to mention that I’m not really into RPGs anymore—especially medieval or fantasy stories. Growing up in the '90s and 2000s, I’ve seen it all, and most modern RPGs, despite their graphical advancements, often feel hollow, lacking the soul of classics.

That being said, I couldn’t ignore the overwhelming praise KCD2 received, especially in a time when we’re quick to dismiss games as just "okay." The fact that there were no major complaints about its technical state was another reason I had to try it. I debated whether I should play the first game first but ultimately decided to jump straight into the sequel and experience it alongside the rest of the fans.

To say I was impressed would be an understatement.

World and Presentation
KCD2’s world feels real—because, in a way, it is. This isn’t a fabricated fantasy land; it’s based on actual historical locations, places you can visit today. Walking through its world, I found myself simply stopping to take it all in, something I haven't done in a long time.

NPCs follow believable routines, and while there are occasional immersion-breaking moments—like someone yelling, “Get out of here, you scum!” only to greet you kindly moments later—the overall effect is astonishing. It doesn’t feel "gamey"; it feels like you’re stepping into a historical world brought to life. Whether or not it’s truly accurate, I can’t say—but it feels authentic.

Graphically, the game isn’t pushing industry benchmarks, but what should be a benchmark is how Warhorse Studios approached its visuals. Instead of chasing ultra-realistic, next-gen fidelity that only the highest-end PCs could run, they created a game that looks beautiful while remaining accessible. It’s a balance more developers should strive for.

Story and Characters
This game didn’t just make me happy as a gamer—it made me happy as a fan of great storytelling across all mediums.

Every character feels alive. Even those who aren’t your favorites are so well-written that you can’t help but care about them. This extends beyond the main cast to side quest characters, who feel like real people existing within this world rather than just NPCs designed to hand out tasks.

But the true star of the show is the main story. As good as the side quests are—and I spent two days straight doing them without ever feeling like I was doing “side content”—the main story is on another level. It’s human, emotional, exceptionally well-written, and performed with such skill that I wish I could wipe my memory and experience it all over again.

The epic moments in this game genuinely blew me away. The only games that have left me feeling this way before were Red Dead Redemption 2—which made me sad that it was over—and The Witcher 3, which I once considered the best RPG I’d ever played.

But that crown now belongs to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Music
The soundtrack deserves its own mention because it might be the best gaming OST I’ve heard in a long time. It doesn’t just complement the game—it elevates it. This isn’t just "good video game music"; it’s on par with legendary composers like Ennio Morricone, John Williams, and Jerry Goldsmith. It’s that good.

Final Thoughts
I don’t want to give the game a perfect 10/10 because there are still minor flaws—some repetitive character models, a few voice lines that feel reused, the occasional bug.

But my honest rating? 9.9/10.

For someone who had lost hope in ever experiencing an original story of this quality—especially from a game—Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is nothing short of a masterpiece.

Thank you, Warhorse Studios. You have my eternal gratitude.
