I so want to recommend this game, It's beautiful and creative, and seems to have so much potential. And I do not want to put down a single indie dev. but this game is not at all worth $20. It doesn't have the content of a full, or even in-progress game, it doesn't even have a solid core. This game needs a lot of work, but I WILL be along for the ride, I just can't in good conscience recommend anyone else do the same.

I know a lot of people have been complaining about the performance, but I have an RTX 4080, and it maintained 60fps! mostly...
But frankly performance isn't really the problem with the game. the first game had pretty bad performance in the early builds. But that's my main point. This feels a lot like the EARLY builds. It's actually kinda nostalgic in a way lol.
But those didn't cost full price...

Okay, I know that $50 technically isn't full price. But compared to the $14 I payed for KSP1 back in the day?
Unless this game ends up costing $100 at launch — what I think is the biggest argument in favor early access games just doesn't apply. The whole point is that you pay for a game early, before it's all there, even though that means taking a risk.
You won't actually know if you'll like the final game, since it's still being developed — but you get it at a discount to encourage you to take that leap of faith!
But in KSP2's case, it's just riding on that previous faith.
The thing is, there are a lot of unknowns right now. There are a lot of promised features that are still a long ways off, and you might not end up liking how they turn out.

It just feels treacherous paying full price for a game that I'm not even sure what it's going to look like in the end.

I'm... not sure I've ever cried tears of joy at a game... Maybe not ever.

Buy this game, play in windowed, and don't be afraid to do reckless things. The game can handle it.

Extra pro tip: play the final stretch of this game while you're REALLY sleep deprived, and you start to have trouble discerning fantasy from reality.

I'll cut to the final question here. Should you buy this game? Absolutely! While the gameplay takes a bit of a backseat It's one of my favorite RPG*s I've played recently. And the ANIMATION!!! This is the most gorgeous 2D game full stop. There are sections in this game where it feels like every frame is new animation.
While there were moments that made me a TEENSY bit uncomfortable (probably specific to my life though), This story was fun! while not really pushing any boundaries story-telling wise, it was very effective at getting you to feel emotions such as:

• Wonder
• Anxiety
• Monkeys!!!
• Anxiety
• Anxiety
• "NO NO NO NO NO"
• Despair
• Hope?

This game will most likely leave you wanting for more! Which I always say is a really good position for any story to leave you in. Though, this game might be pusing that motto a little.

Not to say it's an incomplete story — It's absolutely not! But you don't really get anything AFTER the moment the big bad thing™ is defeated (Maybe a couple minutes of cutscene?) And you don't even really get to see what the state of the world or most of the characters you've met along the way is. Which, believe me, is a question you're probably going to want an answer to (no spoilers.) It feels like it lacks a bit of closure. But for a game where you're on the road (or rather, the rails) most of the time, maybe that's fitting?

There are a lot of things I would LIKE to talk about, but you should really go into this game spoiler-free, so I unfortunately (or fortunately for you) will stop myself here.

*not quite an RPG to be honest, but I don't exactly know what other genre I'd put it in.

uhhhh... Yeah. get this game as soon as possible. it's not long, about an hour. But it's such an amazing experience! the controls can be a bit clunky especially when it comes to rotating but you get used to it pretty quick. it's satisfying to take apart a broken object and go piece by piece fixing it. but that's not really the main drive to the game, what you hear when you're repairing each object is, from their owners. it's really special and i don't want to spoil anything. Just get it.

This review used to be negative because i didn't feel like the game had enough content to justify the $29.99 pricetag. While i still think that price is a little steep the amount of content they've added since then and, how fun and unique this game is, makes it worthwhile. This game is currently the most accessible example of this genre, and i think it deserves to be played.
