Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the danger zone
Ride into the danger zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the deck
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the danger zone
I'll take you
Ridin' into the danger zone

You'll never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edges
Always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the danger zone
Gonna take you
Right into the danger zone

Highway to the danger zone
Right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Gonna take you right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Gonna take you right into the danger zone
Highway to the danger zone
Right into the danger zone

Is this a stand up fight, sir? Or another bug hunt?

(It's a bug hunt.)

I've read many of the reviews on here with a mixture of shock and sadness. While appreciate the problems that so many are having, from my end, this port is flawless. Locked to 60fps @ 1080p and unlocked at 1440p - but averaging between 80-100. My gear - i7 3930k @ 4.0ghz w/ 16mb and a Titan X.

Pretty amazing game. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. You will too, if you have the gear to run it.

Like a lot of people, I approached the new Wolfenstein with quite a bit of trepidation. After all, the original Wolfenstein 3D, and Return To Castle Wolfenstein are both standouts of their respective generations, while the last Wolfenstein game (2009) was a mixed bag, and came at a strange time in the evolution of the FPS. The involvement of Starbreeze staff certainly piqued my interest, while the presence of IDTech5, which powered the inconsistent and troubled RAGE made me wonder if this would be another mediocrity which traded on nostalgia.

While not reaching the classic status of Wolf3D or RTCW, this is a fine iteration of the game, delivering more than enough Nazi-shooting for the seasoned FPS player. IDTech5 problems do render the framerates inconsistent at times, but the graphics are largely powerful and impressive, with a number of superb set pieces. The ballistics that RAGE was known for are not present in WTNO - and some of the firearm sounds are underwhelming, most notably the shotgun which lacks the satisfyingly bassy 'BOOM' of the Doom or Quake shotguns. The game delivers on the gore front, and it one of the most gruesome shooters since Soldier Of Fortune/Double Helix - body parts are sheared away as blood splatters on the walls and floors.

Is a storyline in a Wolfenstein title a kind of heresy against the legacy of the series? Perhaps. This is not a pure shooter, as Wolf3D was, but it is certainly not a prescriptive, linear corridor shooter in the tradition of Call Of Duty. It's a kind of hybrid of the two, closer in feel to the Shadow Warrior remake, with cutscenes providing context for the action, but certainly never substituting gameplay. This is a game that you play, not watch - you will be required to fight your way through the Nazi hordes more often than sitting in anticipation as you watch another shoddily written cutscene.

While it doesn't add to the Wolfenstein legacy - it is too focused on finding a space in the cluttered FPS marketplace to function as a pure extension of the Wolf3D template - WTNO is certainly a fine example of the modern FPS; taut, sharp, and muscular - all meat and no fat. The lack of multiplayer is irrelevant; any multiplayer would have been redundant and peripheral, adding nothing to what this game is attempting to do. Instead, we have an exercise in FPS traditionalism, cut with a modern aesthetic, and a willingness to embrace the action movie tropes of the past, dispensing with the irony of Serious Sam, or the rebellion of Rise Of The Triad, and instead choosing to authentically honour the legacy of one of the finest FPS series' in gaming history.
