The game-play is fun; the crashing every 15 minutes, not so fun. Wait for more patches.

Early Access Review
A good introduction to the world with a large playable area already fully explorable, as is consistent with Larian releases. Somewhat limited in the options for character classes, though more is expected in the future. Sticks a little too closely to the gameplay design of Divinity OS2 with surface effects (a cantrip is too weak to be creating surfaces like it does, and mundane vines shouldn't be as dangerous to traverse as a 1st or 2nd level spell).
One aspect of DnD is how it can be adjusted for as many or as few characters as you like. At the time of writing, the game is limited to 4 characters, yet there are 6 characters total including one custom player character. In the future you will be able to start as one of the five pre-built characters. While there will be additional recruitable characters, these five will be considered the main group, so I think the party limit should be raised to 5 to hold this group.
All this is subject to change.

I don't agree with the idea of microtransactions. I think that they should be relegated to having no affect on gameplay, if not outright removed from gaming. Thankfully I can say that Shadow of War does at least find a middleground. People were worried during the pre-order period, but after release we can see that any unlocked content from loot crates are not only easily unlockable throughout normal gameplay, but do not outpace gameplay to the point of making it trivial. XP boosters are plentiful, but they mainly affect only ranking leaderboards, and any enemies will scale effectively with your Character level.

As for the gameplay itself, Shadow of War delivers on the promises of more of what the orriginal gave. The Nemesis system has been expanded beyond just appearance. Tribes and classes offer a twist to the fighting style of each ork, and is being added upon with further downloadable content. The character abilities have been refined, and those along with gear allow for great customisation of playstyle. Playable maps have been made larger, and more varied from Gondorian City to lush plains, to tundra, craggy caves and volcanic wastes.

  • Is up to date on the rules.
  • Starts you out with a decent number of cards.
  • Has campaign mode.
  • Lets you use story specific decks in campaign.
  • Doesn't have ridiculus charges for booster packs (but does have charges for structure decks).

Pretty much everything I want in a Yu-Gi-Oh game. My only gripe is the reused assets from previous games. I just hope they keep it up to date on both rules and cards. As its on steam, this seems to be the most widely available game to date, hopefully going to be better maintained than the Android/Iphone ones, more well known than the self distributed older PC ones, and able to support more features than the console/handheld ones.
