Man it's tough because I came into this game after a positive experience with the demo which has only soured with the amount of hours spent with the demo. I'm going to focus on what made this game a negative for me rather than writing up a full IGN review of what the game does well and what it does not do.

The update felt like a hail Mary in order to make the game easier which doesn't address fundamental issues like super limited ability to craft and manipulate your deck or fish for specific synergies. Decks feel unimaginative, it feels so irrelevant that my deck heals or shields me on max score if there are only a very select few cards which synergise with them and half the time I'm playing to minimise damage from the AI which bust scarcely.

The whole currency (chips) system feels unfinished, most my runs I never have to look at them unless I am trying to force a synergy/get a specific card. A lot of events do not feel adequate to the floor I am on. There is no point starting runs with so many options to remove cards from your deck when you yourself have no idea what the deck is going towards and only having options to bloat your deck with random cards later. Feels like something that should be at least slightly the other way around.

The game likes to make references to other games so let me draw an example from slay the spire. STS constantly allows for your deck to take shape because shopkeepers can remove cards all the way throughout the game, you have another option which isn't adding or removing but upgrading your cards which again adds another dimension of priority within your deck building.

Slay the Spire, just like balatro let the player take control and create a feeling of advantage in encounters through artifacts/Jokers. It feels so barebones being stuck with just one tag you get to choose at the start and have no reliant possibility of changing the tag itself or forcing a deck archetype in order to utilise the chip. The fun from the aforementioned games come from being able to utilise synergies and combinations as best as you can in a given situation. D&DG has striped that ability from the player and is my suspicion of why the game feels more like a chore than it's competitors.
