"Lowering graphics to take advantage of worse coverage and increased framerates has been a thing for decades in PC 2D games. Those developers never decided "well then let's make that lowest setting the only setting"."

EDIT: The devs reaction to the massive problems with 1.8 has restored some of my faith in them, and this game really is excellent fun for me, even with some of the new issues.
