The game definitely brought my back to my younger age. Playing Sam & Max and Day of The Tentacle are still big moments in my life related to videogames. I loved those games back in the day. I was a real fan of the Point and Click adventures where you had to solve riddles. But those types of games just weren't selling anymore in the last 20 years, so they completely disapeared.

Double Fine Productions decided to create a new one with Kickstarter and, of course, I gave them my money. I got to play the "Beta" version before it is officially released next week because of my donation and I am very pleased.

The graphics have it's own unique and wacky style, just like I was hoping, you still have strange characters that fill a strange world that somehow still works well together.

The story is also quite interesting and hooked me in at the beginning. Not alot, just a little, but enough to make me keep playing the game even though I was pretty tired (not from the game, just in general... I was debating going to sleep or keep playing the game). You basically have two characters, in two completely different settings, unsure of their relation to one another and for each character, you have to solve puzzles to get yourself out of a situation that is bother the character.

While the stories are completely different for both, the gameplay is pretty much the same. There isn't that much gameplay truth be told. This is a point and click adventure game (and no, not like Diablo). So what you'll be doing is talking to characters in the game which will explain the world you live in and will also subtlety tell you if they require something or not. After that, it's up to you to go and explore the world pick-up some objects and then try to use them in the "proper way". The proper way however is part of the puzzle. In some cases, you'd use an item in a way you wouldn't have expected, but in other puzzles it's quite obvious. This is the core of the gameplay for this game. So if you're a huge action fan, you might want to stay clear of this game.

The music is really good and I liked the animations also. I enjoyed the artistic direction.

So overall, if you are like me, and feel a little bit nostalgic of the point and click games from 20 years ago, then pick up Boken Age when it comes out, because it's full of that! However, if you're an action fan, you're not going to have fun with this game because there is no action here, you cannot die, it's simply a big puzzle that you have to figure out.

Other than a few moments where I found the game a bit "lenghty" meaning, not much was happening by me exploring the whole spaceship, there's not much I have to say negative about this game. Unfortunately, for some reason, I feel that giving it a 9 would be too high. I'm asking myself why, but it's just a gut feeling, and I will go with a gut feeling. So because I can't get myself to give it higher than 9 and there were a few down moments without much puzzle solving, I would have to give Borken Age : Act 1 an 8.8 / 10.
