This game took 10 years off my life, but I quite enjoyed it. I DO NOT recommend this game to casual fans of the Assassin's Creed series. I'm on a mission to finish all the games from AC1 to Revelations. This is a self imposed torture session.

The historical setting of the Holy Land during the Third Crusade is fascinating and gorgeous even for a nearly 20 year old game. The story is nothing special, but it sets the base for the rest of the games in the franchise.

The movement and mechanics of this game are infuriating on keyboard and mouse as I did not get my controller to work for it. The gameplay is insanely repetitive with nine assassinations taking about an hour each to complete. You must complete a set number of investigations to uncover enough information to attempt the assassination. These investigations are often tedious and repetitive.

I don't think I have ever raged so much at a game. In the middle of an assassination I accidentally murdered a beggar as a group of them swarmed around me all screaming "I'M POOR, AND SICK, AND HUNGRY" and immediately desynchronized. Thanks Ubisoft.

The offensive portrayal of the mentally ill/challenged is definitely a choice, but for 2007 I guess that was considered acceptable. Walking around you will often be pushed and shoved by a stereotypically moaning and screaming man. As you tumble to the ground you will wonder how much more of this game you can take.

All that to say: play it if you want more context for the Ezio Trilogy of ACII, Brotherhood, and Revelations, don't play it if you want your keyboard to stay intact.
