Game is good, large learning curve, power creep has made certain builds far better than others. Use a guide if you are new as you will mess up your character otherwise.

This is fun as anything else I've played in the genre. There's a few clipping bugs and such, but it in no way deserves thumbs down from controller gamers that cant jump into the bus.

Early Access Review
I really do like this game overall. Hunt Showdown has a charm to it that is very unique with great gunplay, loads of loadout options, and a unique, duo-only gameplay standard.

While many complain about the lack of content existing in the game, I believe that is because people are looking past the progression system. Yes, the progression system eventually comes to a halt at about 40-50 hours with your only option being to reset and start again. However, I do believe the gameplay still makes it worth playing beyond that threshold. I can see myself enjoying the game as-is for 200 or so more hours.

My review is positive and I think you should get this game if you like progression systems, good gunplay, and a mixture of stealth/no balls gameplay, but I'd like to focus on the performance of the game in my pros/cons. The game runs on CryEngine, which isn't known for its spectacular performance with even decent PCs. I'd say pick it up for the above reasons, but only if you have a very strong PC.

Pros:
- Game is stunning
- No part of the map uses recycled assets from other areas; everything is textured with care
- Generally good movement throughout despite brush, trees, and obstacles being in the way

Cons:
- Very demanding on CPUs in particular.
- No updates of merit since I have been playing for about ~3 weeks.
- Random frame drops and spikes for seemingly no reason.
- Audio cuts out occassionally when many sources (monsters/animals) are playing at the same time

My Specs:
* I run the game at 1920x1080 while having a 2560x1440 monitor to save on frames.
* I run the game on lowest settings with vsync, motion blur, and all that other garbage off.
* I drop to as low as 44 fps but average 50-65.
- GTX 1070 Ti
- Ryzen 5 1600 (OC 3.8)
- 8GB DDR4 (Single channel)
- SSD

Early Access Review
I really want to like this game, but the developer's decisions may keep that from happening (this is coming from a H1Z1 player, so I know what it's like to take a load every day). I really like a lot of the games ideas, such as attachments. Giving guns multiple options is a great way to diversify play. I also like the parachuting mechanics; it feels so much better to have more control over when I leave the plane. After these things is where this game largely loses me.

First, the game's performance is unbelievably janky. I thought other early access games like Rust had suboptimal performance, but this takes the cake. Unless you are running the latest and greatest hardware, prepare to cry as your pc tries to chug along while you're looking at a city and fail miserably. You don't even have to be in it. If you own(ed) H1z1, Rust, or Dead by Daylight and have had FPS problems, it only gets worse from here.

Sound in this game is screwed. The pre-game lobby features multitudes of guns, causing the sound in the game to freak out when a few people are shooting. It hurts to listen to, really badly. Prepare to have a mute bind while playing. Devs stated they fixed the lack of player movement noise today so maybe I will go to the store and buy my computer a defibrillator before I try to convince it to try the game again.

They ban people for speaking about hackers on the forum. You can say what you want about them not wanting to be spammed by those threads, but hiding that cheaters exist on the game's store forum probably has to do more with new people purchasing the game than anything else. Even benign posts will get you the banhammer (see other reviews). They really want to make that money apparently. Nobody knows how many cheaters there are, but censoring those posts is always a thumbs down regardless of the game's quality.

This is just a personal thing, but there is a huge problem with programmed delay in this game. Picking anything up requires this annoying animation of the player bending down and grabbing whatever it is. You can cancel this animation very easily (and often, unintentionally), which causes you to not pick it up. Doors require this 1 second buffer before they open/close, which feels so clumsy when you're trying to speed-loot and want to shut the doors behind you. I honestly thought it was server lag at first because it's so bizare, but nope, it's an intended feature.

It's just another early access game in a genre plagued by them. If you don't mind being part of a perpetual alpha, this game may be for you.

This game is currently unplayable with friends and contains numerous problems even when playing solo. Queuing with friends does not work at least 80% of the time and you will be hardpressed to actually get into a game when it does work. Killers just leave when they see things in the lobby that are 3spooky5them (i.e. rank 17 survivors, flashlights equiped). This is being fixed™ but it should have been a day 1 change.

Balancing is an issue as well. Too many perks on both sides promote unfun gameplay elements. Hook camping with the addition of the 7,000 point PIP reward in a recent patch removes the incentive for killers to roam. Survivors have it way too good with destroying hooks, pigeonholing the killer into running mackerbaiting arm 3 so he can actually hook people.

There are no dedicated hosts either, so prepare for every 3rd game to be nearly unplayable due to foreign players queueing to other regions for EZ points.

Beware.

EDIT:

This game is now better. Queueing in multiplayer works (queue times vary from 30s to 6m). The game has bugs, but that was the feature that I most desired.
