This game is fun and can be fun without spending any money or a small amount of money. I'm not sure why anyone would Whale this game (oh right, impatience and more money than sense). Whaling in this just makes you so OP that there's a lot less strategy and fun

F2P players and light-spenders will find themselves using HIHGLY useful A-Rank Pilots that sometimes outclass S for the situations presented. IF you have an OP unit, sure, it outclasses that A-Rank. But you don't need to for MOST* content

*The content that is REALLY hard is oddly for whales, but rewards nothing required or game-breaking, so it isn't really needed for F2P

ALL of that being said... IF you love FRONT MISSION (before it got bad) and just don't want to play the same Front Mission... missions over and over again, THIS game is FUN!

The Border Missions are a Rogue-lite within the game and are by far the most fun and challenging because its only gear/STs you pick up on the way and only your pilot's stats matter from outside the mode.

The rest... is honestly pretty repetitive and the story is "okay." But the story in Front Mission wasn't ever going to win awards either, imo.

Play it for free, and don't stress

This is, however, a REALLY bad game to get into LATE... IF you are going to spend. There is no catch-up mechanic really for limited event units, and those tend to be REALLY good or useful. Other than that, the catch-up mechanic is IRL Money. So that's not great, but that's also Gacha

Get in early or don't get in

Still would be a fun Front Mission game if you get in late, but you get too deep into things and you'll realize you missed out on things that are both cool AND would make life easier

The actual game is short

Nothing you really do in the course of the story, upgrade wise, is a big deal. All the major upgrades and farming stuff are post-game and a grind just for grind's sake

Maybe that's all MH games, but this is my first one that wasn't the "Stories" franchise

Stories had a longer story and upgrades seemed to matter more. There was a lengthy post-game grind as well, but it feels like a chore with very repetitive battles here

You can certainly make this game harder, more fun, etc by putting limits on yourself, no min-maxing, no teaming with other players, but otherwise it is rare to fail anything

The big grinds are for time trials on limited events, and RNG grinds of material drops/vendor/NPC stuff, and not really a major main goal other than completionist or to show offa charm and high HR

Its good, I play it a lot, and will still play it. The mechanics are sound, the combat is fun, the armor fashion game is on point. I just don't see how this is new or refreshing to anyone that's played MH to death, and why they would still do it. To me, it is all new and fun still.

Paid full price for the game, have an impressive rig to run it, and have ZERO performance issues... so I think that helps me stay invested, as its just GD pretty to look at and move within the world at high FPS, and I wanna squeeze the worth out of the game experience

Think the performance issues others have would really make this a non-starter if you have anything that isn't able to run it at max everything... just play Worlds in that case?

Updated (again) Part 3 (01/24/25)

So, they fixed some of the Killzone stuff, but it took them a while (giving it to players)

Otherwise, my other points stand. Upgrading it to a "buy" simply because the balance changes and overall fun of the game make it worth it

** UPDATED ** PART 2 (01/01/25)

GAME crashes, and the Warbonds are all 1000 SC even if some are NOT worth 1000 SC like others (all unlocks as a whole)

Main BIG issue lately: Killzone items not being given to CUSTOMERS who bought the game AT RELEASE... AND not giving it to NEW customers who maybe saw "oh neat, KILLZONE, I'll buy the game" only to find out "Not for you, lol..."

The DEVS oscillate back and forth between doing good things (August updates, YAY! Everything doesn't arbitrarily SUCK for no reason) and doing things like nerfing something in a PVE GAME, or NOT giving stuff to PAYING customers, and making other things not only bad, but expensive on in-game market "Buy this AR, it is mediocre... the the 2/3 of a Warbond COST for it is NOT mediocre... $$$ please!"

Right now... until they give everyone ALL the things and STOP tinkering with PVE stuff like it needs such fine-tuning...

SKIP THIS GAME

** UPDATED ** OLD UPDATE
So, the game is in a great place right now as far as being playable.

It still needs work with Settings not saving, tuning of weapons, tuning of encounters, and adding value to more than one specific loadout/setup. Some weapons feel like you may as well be using harsh language, while others feel like you've been imbued with the power of a god. NOT a ton of inbetween those 2 extremes, tbh. Some difficulties/missions seem harder than those above them, which can create a "struggle zone" for players only playing with randos.

It also needs a LOT of optimization. There are people with a better system than I have, that run it worse than I do, and there are times where the game freezes up or crashes randomly.

A work in progress, but a very very very FUN work in progress currently.

Wait and buy it on Sale, hope it is playable by then. If they fix the game, I'll fix this review.

Not worth your time atm, play something else. If higher user numbers don't make them spend $ on upgrading servers and moving to scalability in the cloud... maybe a plateau in user numbers or a drop will give them clarity.

Game is fun, don't get me wrong, but you can't even get into this game to do the tutorial without a server connection, nor can you LEAVE the game while it retries on a loop (without hitting Alt-F4)

Pretend we live in 2024 and fix your ish

This thing works great, when it works. The latest build constantly drops the network connection. Apparently this has been known since February and Valve has yet to fix it. The bug with the network connection makes any longer gaming sessions unplayable and games with long distances between save points infuriating. If you have a game you can save often, then go ahead and play. With this current build, however, I would suggest you avoid any games where you might have to replay hours of gameplay due to a faulty network issue.
