Like the original Prey, the 2017 reboot tries to take the current technology and accomplish a long-form action movie genre on top of it, with lots of wow-moment surprises and a rich intricate story. It totally nails that Prey-ness and hurls it into a new millennium.

For a long time I was hung up on repetitive game dynamics which ordinarily doom a game: endless inventory management, enemies that become too familiar, empty giant maps without enough action. But where Alien Isolation didn't keep me in the seat long enough to unfold the whole thing, Prey (2017) kept teasing me along with red-meat story-telling and dreamy technical details. The models and lighting and sound and style just never stops. Such a joy. I would compare it to modern AAA Deus Ex-type effort.

I am going to check out Typhon Hunter and Mooncrash, and I hope the experimental process keeps going and we don't lose the AAA single-player action-novel genre to Far Cry and X-Com style game-play (both of which I do love). Fingers-crossed. For me Prey (2017) proved there is still an audience for this classy slow-food style immortal fiction.

This game seems to have taken iPad game and ported it to Unity. Um, huh? This fails the basic premise that it IS a PC game. This belongs on a phone. Shame!
