Soulstorm is the last expansion to the first Dawn of War game. The game takes place in the Warhammer 40k universe, where humanity is led by the undying corpse of their god in a future that knows only war. The game has nine factions, two being added in this expansion, the Sisters of Battle and the Dark Eldar.

It is a real-time strategy game in the classic sense where you build and upgrade a base, but unlike other games, resources are spread across the map in the form of nodes that you must capture. This means that defensive strategies like turtling are generally discouraged, and large battles between forces converging on these crucial nodes occur often.

The single player campaign has you choosing a faction to play, and traveling on a risk-like strategic map of several planets. You select where you wish to go, and a battle begins over the territory, the victor getting the spoils, which can include veteran units and special wargear for your commander. The campaign plays similarly to the one in the Dark Crusade expansion, although that one felt slightly more polished.

The Dark Eldar and the Sisters of Battle are both perfectly fine additions to the game, although the powers system unique to the Dark Eldar is somewhat lacking and the Sisters feel as if they have nothing exactly special about them. I generally find myself playing Space Marines, Chaos, and Imperial Guard.

Soulstorm isn't bad exactly, but it's certainly not the best expansion for Dawn of War. It is a great game to play still, whether it's single or multi player.

After two years and over 800 hours played, I can confirm that I am probably autistic and that Crusader Kings 2 is an amazing game. If you have any interest in grand strategy, medieval intrigue, megalomania or eugenics, do yourself a favor and buy this game.
