I absolutely love this game. It’s extremely easy to pick up and have a good time. The skill floor is pretty low. Only 2 primary attack buttons, auto combos and easy motion inputs.

I’ve played a lot of BBCF and a little bit of Under Night, but both have a much higher skill floor. I can see why long time BB fans might not like this one, but I’m not looking at this as a mainline game.

It's Doom. If you haven't played it, shame on you.

Bethesda and nu-id have taken very good care of arguably one of the most important games in history. This new package is excellent. Every official release and the option for Boom compatible mods, with enough settings options to make the game more enjoyable on modern hardware. I love gzDoom, but this will be my new go to for source ports.

Early Access Review
Short review: Buy it, if you're ok with early access. Otherwise, wishlist it.

Longer review:
This game feels so good. Only complaint I have so far, is that it's too short. But, it's in early access. The weapons feel excellent, everything is useful in different situations, and has the appropriate impact. The visual style is unique, and gives the game a remade/mastered Quake II vibe. This plus the insane amounts of gore, and violence adds a smidge of brutal doom to the style, and the HUD reminds me of Metroid Prime.

Definitely pick this up if you're enjoying the 90s FPS revitalization, it's a great addition to the lineup that includes Amid Evil, Dusk, and Ion Fury.

This is my Game of the Year for 2020. 2020 has been an un-ending nightmare, but Valve blessed us with another Half-Life game and did not disappoint.

To start, I played this with an HTC Vive and the Index controllers.
Gameplay is about what you'd expect for a Current Gen VR game, but given the usual Valve polish. The Index controllers make interaction with the world, objects and Gunplay much more immersive. It borrows a lot from games like Boneworks, Windlands, The Lab, and others.

Graphics are absolutely outstanding. My PC is getting a little long in the tooth, so I played on low, but everything that made Source 1 look great has been amplified to 11 in Source 2.

The Story finally closes the Cliffhanger of Half-Life Episode 2, and Immediately opens a new one. I would strongly recommend at minimum finishing Episode 2 before playing Half-Life Alyx. The build up to the endgame is well paced, and watching all of the events almost as if you are there in classic Half-Life fashion really helps sell this excellent story.

This game is not very good, especially compared to the original. BUT, it's free and I think it successfully completes it's objectives:
1. Act as nostalgia bait for those 30 year old Boomers.
2. Sell Chex Mix.

I recommend it, but if you're looking to have that nostalgic itch scratched, go play the original. It works with the Shareware Doom WAD, and it's entirely free too.

6/13/2020: Little late, but I can re-recommend this game now that Denuvo is gone.

I would recommend, but it's a hard recommend. The game is a solid 7/10 and I'll explain why it's not the 10/10 Doom 2016 was in a bit. Let me start with the good first.

All of the weapons are useful throughout the campaign, and you will need to get used to switching weapons often depending on the situation. Each weapon feels good, and highly detailed.

The movement is turned up to 11, and this is the best part of Doom Eternal. You have a dash and double jump that you'll have early on. These enable you to move around the arenas very quickly, and use them as escape or dodge maneuvers. You also have the ability to swing from poles in some of these arenas, adding to the movement.

Graphics and level design are superb, and are exactly what I expect from id Software. The music is also top notch, and Mick Gordon delivers again some top shelf tunes that I'll listen to outside of the game.

Now the bad. There are 3 Systems for gathering Health, Ammo, and Armor. Glory kills, Chainsaw, and Fire. Balancing these 3, with the high movement speed, and the huge number of weapons makes this game feel too busy, and after a while it starts to really get old managing these systems. I'll use a metaphor, Doom 2016 felt like driving 90 on the highway, while in medium rush hour traffic. Manageable, and fun. Doom Eternal feels about the same, but this [cdn0.vox-cdn.com] is your steering wheel. The game also suffers from a slow painful start, due to not having all of the movement tools, or health. ammo, and armor systems in place. Once you have these, there's a flow that you get into for the 2nd and 3rd acts that makes this game feel really good, but by the time 4th act rolls around, and you're fighting bosses, and harder enemies, balancing all of these systems can really get in the way of having that same fun feel.

The big issue is out of the way. Another common complaint I've heard is about the platforming. I don't agree that it's bad, but outside of combat it's a chore and doesn't add to the fun. There are some sections on Urdak that are really tedious and require precise platforming to complete. Platforming in an FPS game is generally a bad time, and Doom Eternal is no exception. Some smaller issues, there's multiple add-ons for most of the weapons, but like Doom 2016, you won't use them all. For example: I never bothered to unlock the microwave beam for the Plasma Gun, the heat burst is great, esp. when fully upgraded.

tl;dr Buy it when it's on sale, and don't expect to be blown away by it.

Early Access Review
Many Updates later, and the devs have fixed a lot of the issues I had complained about, It feels much better, enemies are far less spongy. The game is still fairly difficult, but not frustrating.
